Picking your nose
I have been picking my nose for as long as I can remember. Never caused me any problems until a few years ago. It was just a dirty habit that people throwned upon until then. Anyway history part of over....
A few years ago I started getting heavy bleeding every time I did it. Never twigged on to why straight away, but after a few weeks it was become clear that I was no longer digging at the normal nasal fluids. But I was going in the septum (the bit between you nasal channels in your nose). I knew I was cutting into it every time I did it, but I still couldn't stop my self. A few years down the line and I now have a hole inside my noise. I don't get nose bleeds so much, but they still happen occasionally.
I understood what I was doing to my self and I knew it was bad for me, but I kept on doing it. For me it must have been a comfort thing, as I have always done it and just seems normal to do so for me. Its taken me alot to admit I have a problem, and I really have no idea how to handle it.
I want to see a doctor, but I cant beat this habit no matter how hard I try. I just keep doing it, and until I stop I don't think there is much point in seeing anyone.... However if I do go see a medical professional, what can I expect? What can be done inside the NHS?
Anyone with experience with a problem like this who wants to talk to me would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks......... -
Re: Picking your nose
You have already failed when you say "I'll never be able to stop."
Why the hell not!? I get that it's a habit, but you are in control of what you do. It'll probably take time , and it'll be very frustrating, but you can do it. Grow some will power and stop! Maybe some sort of system would help, like putting 10p in a charity box/jar every time you do it..
The first step is realising when you do it (you've done it do long it'll probably feel automatic, so pay attention!) Then you can start catching yourself before you do it, and gradually lose the habit.
