    Missing Freshers?
Hello, I have a place at university however I won't be there for the first 12 days...

Firstly, do I have to phone up the university and "ask" if this can happen? I have a genuine reason. Will they keep my room free?

Secondly, will I cope with missing freshers?!?!?! I was so excited for it!! I'm going to Hartpury so it's a college campus so I'm hoping it will be a bit easier to make friends as it's so small? Has anybody else missed Freshers? I'm a bit scared now! i LOVE making friends and am very easy to get on with, so do you think i'll be ok?

    Thankyou.

If you pay for your accommodation, then the room is yours even if you do not turn up.
Secondly, missing freshers would be missing out on an experience in itself, but I don't want to make you worried. I am afraid the following comments may just do that. Brace yourself.

So should I still inform them??

Hmm yes that's what I was worried about!! I'm guessing you are passed year one then, did you find that the firends you made in freshers were the friends you stayed with the whole time?

My boyfriend missed Freshers (he turned up for the first day when everyone moved in, did the first night of meeting people in our hall bar but then had to go back home for about 2 weeks the next day as his mum was v ill - he stayed down until after the funeral). I don't know if he feels like he missed out on 'an experience', but he made plenty of friends and settled in fine at uni when he came back so I don't think you need to worry too much, you'll be fine.

You'll probably be "allowed", but make sure to tell them or they might assume you just didn't turn up and give your room away to someone else.

Well i have now finished my third year. the friends i made were my friends from halls. To be fair i wasn't very close with them during freshers, but i was lucky that the ones in my corridor were similar to me. I think you make your main friends during the first term, not just during freshers, so you should be ok.

I'd inform the accommodation people and the head of your course as you may have to make alternative arrangements to pick up keys/find out timetables etc but it's not the end of the world, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Do you have to matriculate during freshers? (I think most unis do) If so then definitely get in contact with your uni and ask if you can do it another time.

I can't really offer much advice on actually missing the freshers events, but one of my flatmates missed freshers last year and he fitted in just fine with us when he did arrive.

There may be some formalities which are done during freshers week which you should inform the university that you cannot attend.

you will need to inform the university as it is during the first week that registration takes place. however as long as you make an effort with people when you do arrive it shouldnt matter that you mish freshers

I started university this year and missed freshers. Still managed to make friends so don't worry about it.
