    Shall I get into Dentistry?
    Hi,
I am very confident that i want to do Dentistry and have been for many years. Here is my profile:
    GCSE: 9A*s 2As
    AS: AAAA (so far)
A2 prediction: Not had them yet
Work experience: 2 weeks private + NHS, 3 months working at Dental reception (over summer holidays for past 3 years), work in care home 3 hours a week, 1 week dental lab
Extra Curricular: play piano (grade 7 ish), in art group, swimming, year 7 buddy, senior prefect, (so close to being head girl)

What do you guys think of my chances?
Also, quick question - I know that Leeds had introduced the MChD, masters in dental surgery, and i wondering what your opinion was on it? Do you reckon it shall be harder to get into, a harder course, more fast pace?

    Thanks!

Sorry to nit-pick. But shouldn't the thread title be: "Will I get into Dentistry?"?

    You should with those GCSEs!

    Cue negs...

why are you asking? if you want to do it apply for it, if you get the A2 predicted grades you'll be fine, everything else sounds fine to me ^^
    the decision is yours
    best of luck!

But the OP hasn't had her A2 predictions yet, which are more important than GCSEs.

But she's had AAAA at AS, so she is bound to get at least AAB...

You have a very good shot at getting in due to your above average GCSE's and all A's at AS. Your work experience is very impressive as well (3 years as a receptionist!). All you have to do now is keep up the voluntary work and start preparing for the UKCAT.

About Leeds, as far as I'm aware the course is pretty much exactly the same as it used to be, with the only difference being that you also get a BSc (Hons) in Oral Science by the end of year 3. Though that was information I read over a year ago and my memory could be a bit foggy, so you might as well take a look at their prospectus.

I personally think they should just use BDS or, if they really want to look unique, DDS. They've got a better ring to them.

What exactly is your point with this post? Yes, you are a perfect candidate (thus far) and I'm sure you know this. I also imagine you know exactly what you need to achieve from here.

Unless you are just letting everyone here know that you are doing very well then I think you need to ask more specific questions.

BTW, that's not me giving you the thumbs down.

Re Leeds: In addition to what you posted, students on the MChD take on a large research project in the final year, which those on the BChD programme did not do.

A research project?! Guess that cancels out with my dislike for their post-nominal letters!:^_^:

You might find the summary below useful:

    Year Five: The Culmination

Final year modules and clinical experience will consolidate the behaviours, skills and knowledge needed to make a successful transition to vocational training and professional life. An in-depth Masters level project will ensure that higher level cognitive learning skills are developed and assessed. Modules will cover mastication, speech and swallowing and sedation in dentistry. Students will gain practical experience in conscious IV and inhalation sedation. The ‘New Horizons’ module will lead students through evidence-based learning from bench to clinical practice.
