Mechanical Engineering starters 2012
Hey all, I did have a search around but I could only find threads from 2011.
I've put down Coventry as my firm choice to study Mechanical Engineering BEng Hons... And depending on how things go, I may do a placement year too. Afterwards, I'd like to move to another engineering for my postgrad and specialise in aerospace engineering for my masters.
I've only got a conditional offer at the moment, so I can't complete my accomodation booking, but I'm hopeful with my grades that I can secure a place at Cov!
Are there any other engineering students? It'd be good to hear from all of you and to see which courses you're going for.
Cheers! -
Re: Mechanical Engineering starters 2012It should be a blast!
Say, are you on the first year now or going into later years?
I'm just trying to see if it's worth getting a laptop to do engineering work on. Coventry use CATIA for CAD (or it was last year). MMU use Solidworks, which is what I wanted to learn, but hey ho. But do you think people would get a student license and do extra work in their own time, such as coursework type things where you need the designs?
Also, for engineers, animators, etc: Autodesk (producers of 3DS Max, Maya, and a tonne of engineering solutions from electrical to civil to mechanical to architectural) give you a 3 year free student license to all of their software (probably about £100k worth of stuff!) for free. So if you use any of that, check them out. It might look good on your CV afterwards if you can show proficiency in other software. Just a thought anyway. -
Re: Mechanical Engineering starters 2012I am currently going to 2nd year. We use Solidworks. Well, you will definately have a lot of computers on campus with the required software and as the majority of work will be group (I guess), you will not need a laptop for that.(Original post by SillyEddy)

I personally have a mac (for all the other uses, as it doesn't support Solidworks).
A laptop is always usefull
