CRGS: What are the people like?
Hi there,
This year, I got an acceptance letter from Colchester Royal Grammar School...and am really excited...except I know nobody at all that goes there. At my current school, I hang with a sort of 'gamer' group, although do fit in with the sporty and musical types...but not at all with the chavvy lot. Would the type of people at CRGS take the mickey of me for writing this, or are they kinder, and more accepting sorts of people? Are there loads of geeky people, or posh, snobby people? I just want to know if I'll enjoy it there :-/ -
Re: CRGS: What are the people like?
Hey

Did you go to the social evening a few days back?
I went and I absolutely loved it!!! Even I don't know anyone that's going there next year :/ but I'm still excited! What A-levels are you going to be doing?
I'm taking all the sciences and maths
See ya in September!

Re: CRGS: What are the people like?
My brother and I go there and here's a few myths/things to note:
1. It's nearly all private school kids/foreign kids
2. There are always a lot of Asians/ hong kong foreign students (50-60%), personally I find them the most friendly.
3. You get worked HARD
4. Everyone's wicked smart and it can often be offputting; but don't worry: you earn't your place and deserve to be there. -
Re: CRGS: What are the people like?Yeah, but looks are deceptive! I had a really great asian friend who didn't seem rich/didn't act posh and two years later he let slip that his family had a mansion with servants and some jungle land in India!(Original post by Natalie21)
Mix of lots of geeks, lots of normal people and lots of posh people :P -
Re: CRGS: What are the people like?Ohh noo! My current school is very...well not exactly as prestigious as CRGS! The teachers are okay, they too don't push you very hard..soo yuuup definitely the next two years are going to be very different! I seriously can't wait! Just waiting for the 22nd of June - end of all my exams!!! I can finally sleep till like the afternoon!!! When do your exams end?(Original post by Steroidsman123)
Yeah...should be better than where I currently am. Are you from a private school? Most people seemed to be on both the social evening and revision day.
Thanks and good luck with yours too!

Re: CRGS: What are the people like?
Hi there
I made a few acquaintances but we only really met others joining this year, so in September we will all have unfamiliar faces round us too. Also, on both the social evening and revision day, the people seemed really friendly. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get a late offer?
Meeting others such as at the open evening, most seem to be from public schools. However, you, I, 'Sohini' and two or three others I met in the revision day and social evening were not from public schools, so I wouldn't worry about the accent! Good luck with any remaining exams you may have
Nice...difficult...combination of subjects you have there lol -
Re: CRGS: What are the people like?
I've met a couple of people in the year above me, mainly because the person who gave the tour of the school on my interview day goes on the same bus as me sometimes. ^^ People seemed really nice on the social evening, a lot of girls from the High school for Girls but everyone seemed willing to chat. Most of the people I talked to however, unlike Steriodsman123, came from comprehensive schools. And I wouldn't worry about an accent, seeing as I know someone who lives in Suffolk who got a conditional offer!
I'm sure it'll be fine - it's just a wait till the 23d now...

is this the case? D:
