Off campus accommodation
Welcome to Loughborough University: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from being a drinking university with a sporting problem to why everyone wears flip flops in winter.

Re: Off campus accommodation
Go to Waterways, in my opinion. I'm going there next year as a second year as it's just so convenient to town, in a good location and also it's actually really nice as I've visited it a few times to see friends. It's just like living in halls, but off-campus, so you'll meet lots of people too. The facilities are really good as well.
The Cube is in a horrible location, so you don't tend to get as many people there, but it is very good price-wise. But yeah, normally people in their third or fourth years tend to go there, so it's got a bit of an older feeling (from what I've heard).
Kingfisher is near some houses, so I hear that they tend to complaint a lot about the students. Also, it's supposedly not in the nicest area anyway and the facilities aren't as good as Waterways. I don't know about the pricing though, so if it's cheap, it may be good. I don't know how many people go there either as I know that Loughborough basically jammed most of their extra first year students in Waterways this year, so it probably is the best bet to be around lots of other people.
Also with Waterways, they put all of the first years together, so you'll be with lots of people in the same situation

Re: Off campus accommodation
One of my mates has been in The Cube for his first and second year (and probably going to be for his third as well). It's out of the way (west of the west end of campus) but it is cheap and really nice (I'd argue a lot nicer than most of the Uni ran halls). All of the rooms are en-suite and I think my mate is paying sub £70/week all inclusive (though I think he haggled them down for being there last year as well). I'd say the only real downside is the location, but you can get a bike from the Cube as well - I think its included in the cost of accommodation, and you just need to sign some paperwork. So you could get a bike and cycle into town, Sainsbury's will only be about 10 minutes on a bike.
I don't know much about Waterways or Kingfisher. Though from the outside Waterways does look quite nice and its about 2 minutes from Tesco, though it's about 15-20 minutes walk onto campus. -
Re: Off campus accommodation
I'd go for the catered halls, stay on campus. In freshers, and all year, there's a massive massive hall spirit- your hall almost becomes your family. If you go for private halls, you're likely to miss all of the chanting, competitions, IMS sports, halls provide loads of things for freshers to do.
Private halls like waterways/kingfisher seem to be mostly returners, finalists and postgrads (esp. people who didn't manage to get placements but too late to get houses/halls etc). Its my opinion I suppose, but one of my course friends lived in private halls for freshers, so never really got that close friendships that the rest of us made in halls, and I just don't think she's enjoying uni as much because of it.
Anyway, opinions aside, i's avoid the Cube unless you're doing an engineering course, because its quite a way away! I've heard nice things about Kingfisher and Waterways is in a decent location near the student houses in the town too.
Hope you find somewhere! xx
