What made you want to become a teacher?
Currently going through the PGCE process and whilst preparing for my PGCE interview I wondered what made other people become a teacher or apply for a PGCE
Obviously outside of the generic ' I've always had inspiring teachers' and the obvious fame and glory that come with it.............

Re: What made you want to become a teacher?I always liked being in schools and being the organised, prepared person. I've always been the person people come to for help and I like educating people.

Re: What made you want to become a teacher? My A-Level English teacher, he was so inspirational. I'm now training to do his job. That's how inspirational he is to me.
Note: Any teacher worth his salt can handle the workload. It's teaching that is the easiest part of the job imoLast edited by Mr. Approachable; 12-06-2012 at 22:59. -
Re: What made you want to become a teacher?
I used to HATE children.
But I always loved school and I knew I was just one of those people that was good at explaining things well.
Then I went to Africa and quite by chance ended up teaching in a Lion Sanctuary and holding workshops based on the environment and the life cycle of lions. The lions were great (I had a couple to cuddle whilst I worked with the kids), but the kids were better. I never realised how cool it is to be asked so many interesting questions by children. When I came home, I toyed with the idea of teaching, went to a local primary and helped out for a bit, then realised it was actually a good option.
I think it is important that your decision to become a teacher is an informed decision, carefully thought out and planned for, rather than just an inclination that teaching is your 'dream'.
Remember, landing your 'dream' job is a mixture of these things:
Things you love
Things you are good at
Things people will pay you to do
Obviously the last part is a given with teaching but you need to show that you have both of the first two covered.
