    Might have failed a module...
    Hi all,

I have passed five out of six modules, earning 20 credits for each one. I got a 2:2 as my overall mark for four of them, the other a 2:1.

There is one module which required me to do two presentations, and a report on one of them. There was no exams or coursework for it. Now, the report required 2000 words but I didn't see anything on Moodle which said this, so I did about 600 words instead, and now I fear I have failed it.

Does this mean that I have failed my whole first year? If so, will I be given a chance to resubmit the report or will I have to redo the whole of my first year again?

You should double check with your uni but usually you only fail the year if your average mark from all your modules is below 40%. Sometimes there are modules/pieces of work which you must pass to progress to your next year (in my uni these are called PFPs or pass for progression modules) so if this report or module you're talking about here is a PFP or something similar then you may have to redo the report or possibly the year.

To me, this seems unlikely though and you may not have even failed the module if you got decent marks for your two presentations.

    Hope this helps!

Some courses require you to pass all modules

    Others require an overall 40+

Your course materials should tell you how yours works

Most uni's require you to pass every module and every element within a module. i.e you must attain 40% for every piece of work. You may be eligible for compensation if marginally fail ie. get 35% as long as your overall average for the year is 40% or more.
