Sociology OCR A2 Social inequality - tomorrow!
I'm really stuck on how to answer question 1 (Using the item and your own knowledge outline and explain how focus groups may be used in sociological research for example) or question 2 (Outline and assess the claim made by some sociologists that the most valuable and powerful insights into the lives of young people are offered by researching the views of young people for example).

My teacher has never given us model answer for either questions or explained how best to answer it, so I'm really stuck!

Q1) - 15 marks - you only talk about advantages of the method...keeping linking it back with the source material...e.g. if the method is representative..see the source material and identify whether the study was representative...e.g. if they've used 2000 respondents from different areas...this can be generalised and therefore is representative..

Q2) e.g. Outline and assess the view that observation provides the most useful method for sociological research into feelings and views of homeless children (25 marks)...talk about why its useful and why its not..basically advantages and disadvantages...remember keep linking it back to the source material...e.g. if it says that the observation was carried out over a period of 10 months..then you can say that this is high in validity and also in-depth research can be gathered because of the fact that its been carried over for quite a bit of time..this is good for making generalisations...etc etc...

Hope that makes sense and is of some use...Good luck for tomorrow

Hey, I was wondering how people intend on timing themselves with each question? how to split time?
I intend on doing the paper backwards, because 4th question has most marks to be picked up.

Also if anybody has any further tips on Q1&2

I've been told to spend 5 minutes reading the source, 15 minutes on question 1, 30 minutes on question 3, 25 minutes on a and 45 minutes on b...hope that helps!
