Do you think the sound is too loud at gigs?
I often find that at gigs the music is just loud an defening that it ruins the song. Like you cant hear the artists singing proper either that or they will shout their way through songs in an attempt to not be drowned out by the music. Does anyone else think that at concerts the sound should be a little quieter so that you can hear the singing..ans also so it doesnt deafen you as much lol. I know people like loud music but theres loud and then theres just defening muffled noise.
Im referring to arena tours btw... -
Re: Do you think the sound is too loud at gigs?
Can often be bad acoustics, but think about it this way, "arena tours" often have like 20,000-40,000 people in one stadium all screaming their lungs off. It has to be VERY loud otherwise the crowd will just drown out the performing artist.
You should invest in some ear-plugs if you're worried about going deaf, oh and start going to more intimate gigs for a better sound. :P -

sometimes it can be too loud, especially if the song the artist is singing is soft and quiet (or basically a sad song)
but I've found that the bass can sometimes be a bit too much, especially when its all you can hear when you watch back a video recording you made

Re: Do you think the sound is too loud at gigs?
Some gigs can be too loud, I've been to gigs at manchester old trafford and liverpool empire which were not much louder than when I listen to music in my room.
On the other hand, I went to a doom/drone/black metal gig tonight and left early, partly because of the volume and partly because I realised I had stuff to do. -

I'm pretty comfortable at big gigs, small room with just those box on tripod speakers can reach painful levels if they're turned up too high though ime.
You can get gig earplugs that attenuate but dont colour the sound fwiw... But naturally I'm too manly to use them myself. -

Never thought this until I saw Delain around a month ago. Loudest band I have seen by a mile, which is weird considering most of the bands I have seen have been black/death metal! The quality of the sound was crystal clear for all the bands, but so loud! I couldn't hear properly for over a week, and my right ear still hurts a fair bit from time to time. I might start to take earplugs, because that volume for the whole gig was almost too much. Doubt I would bother to use them. Would HATE to have the sound muffled.

Re: Do you think the sound is too loud at gigs?
It can be occasionally. I love loud, floor shaking music as much as anyone, but once it gets to the point where its literally painful to listen to cos its so loud I'm not really sure what the appeal is. These tend to be the same sort of nights where you come away from the venue and you can't hear anything the day after, which is a bit worrying. Definitely gonna try and invest in a pair of ear plugs when I can, I think I've probably already permanently damaged my hearing from standing by the speakers at death metal gigs when I was 15 but would be nice not to have it deteriorate any further, I love music so much and it would devastate me if I stopped being able to hear it properly. It's a shame its necessary though, there have been plenty of clubs and venues I've been to when they've managed to get the balance right where it's loud enough to fully appreciate the music but once you leave you can still hear absolutely fine, wish more places would aim for that.

Sometimes it can be far, far too loud.
What bothers me more is how the support bands (who I normally go to a gig purely for!) are subjected to the tech guys fiddling with the volume for the whole of their set to make sure the sound is decent for the headliners.
Actually think sound at arenas is at a more appropriate level than at academies. Rammstein at Manchester MEN Arena sounded brilliant, sound was loud yet crisp. -

"Hells nah!"

I like the deafening effect. I find it to be very meditative because it stops me from thinking about ****ty life. If I find that a gig offers standing tickets, I refuse to get seated because it's soooo much better when you're standing right at the front so it's even more deafening!

Re: Do you think the sound is too loud at gigs?It won't just be an "effect" if you keep doing it.(Original post by Vixen47)

It will be a permanent ailment. -
Re: Do you think the sound is too loud at gigs?I do as well and so does my brother. Love my hearing and want to keep it for many years to come.(Original post by robo donkey)
I take ear plugs now, can't believe I went to so many without them, they're a true godsend
