    BPTC Provider Selection- Nottingham Trent?
    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could let me know about taking the BPTC course in Nottingham Trent University (third-tier university). I have applied and gotten a place there as I have read the BPTC course might be quite good BUT I am having doubts about the university.

Is the training as rigorous as BPP/College of law? and would it be fair to choose for instance BPP Law School over NTU?

Thanks for reading this thread, I hope to hear from anyone! (personal comments/opinions or from people who have completed the course already at NTU etc)

    xx

Isn't it supposed to be one of the better regarded BPTC providers. I don't think the 'regular' university ranking matters so much for the BPTC in any event. From attending university in Leicester and so having had some contact with the NTU BPTC academic team (too many acronyms!), they bang on about their pupillage rates being around the 40% mark, and therefore at least double the majority of other providers. I don't know how much of this is self-selection of the students going to study the BPTC at NTU in the first place and how much is the actual teaching there, but the general consensus is that chambers don't overly care where you have done your bar course; more attention is likely to be paid to your undergraduate institution.

I've heard it's meant to be one of the best places for postgraduate law courses such as LPC, BPTC, GDL, MSc's etc. I don't think it's a third tier university - especially not for post grad law.

NTU and their London counterpart Kaplan are supposed to be the best for pupillage rates - the university level rankings aren't really applicable for BPTC level

    hi guys,

thanks for the feedback! I'm just having a bit of a difficulty right now due to the fact that my parents keep insisting that I go to London to do my BPTC but i think it might be expensive..

Tell them you will go if they pay!!

In all seriousness, NTU is supposed to be great for the BPTC. I've been to the law school and it feels much more familial than an outlet of the CoL/BBP behemoths.

I would perhaps prefer to go to City Law School in London for the reputation and location (ESP if you wanna practice in London). Kaplan is basically the same as NTU but in London.

Nottingham Law School is part of NTU for administrative reasons only (I believe it previously existed independently). There is a BIG difference between the calibre of students doing professional courses compared to those doing undergrad law.

Pros: Pupillage rates; great facilities (Kaplan's 'library' is a broom cupboard...); all the benefits of being at a university; practical, respected, highly-rated course; at least £5k cheaper than London providers (and that's just the fees!); free qualifying sessions at some Inns (e.g. Middle Temple)

Cons: It's not in London; Pupillage Portal still lists it as NTU not NLS.

For me, it was an easy decision.
