Currently don't care about the money...
is it just me who really doesn't care about how much uni costs at the moment, it's not even like i'm rich or have the money, all my friends are like 'it's so expensive blah blah' but i'm just here like it's not like we're actually paying for it yet, and they take it back little by little, maybe i'm just ignorant -.- definitely heading into debt aren't i :/

Nope, dont have a care about it at all, the way I see it, its not going to impact us in the slightest is it? Wish people would stop being stingy, its only right that a student pays for his own fees, after all you are acquiring a service, a degree is good value for money.

from that perspective; then I agree it is something to worry about if your not offered a student loan, I think that should be a minimal aid to every student out there; how is the average 18 year old expected to pay uni fees without a loan, or support from family?

Re: Currently don't care about the money...My parents are going to pay for accommodation and tuition, but that's only possible with a huge loan from a bank, and even then I'm going to have to pay for all my living costs myself, I'll literally have to work every hour I can get over the summer!(Original post by icecoolwas)

Re: Currently don't care about the money...ohh then in your case i would definitely be worried, it's unfair that they expect you to pay it all upfront!(Original post by jerseymackem)

if i had to do that then i would probably be considering other options like deferred entry so i can get enough money to pay, :/ i hope you can get work sorted! you could even have more than one, like a regular weekday work in the summer then a saturday one or something you can do after work hours like possibly babysitting or something you can do that uses your personal skills instead

Re: Currently don't care about the money...I already work at a supermarket on saturdays, I'll try and grovel to get work in the week too! Unfortunately employment's pretty much the same over here as on the mainland, there aren't many jobs at all for students!(Original post by lazershus)

Re: Currently don't care about the money...They aren't. I don't think the fees are designed to be affordable to the average person, they're designed to require a state loan. I presume the reason jerseymackem can't get a loan is because he's from Jersey, which technically makes him a non-UK, non-EU resident.(Original post by icecoolwas)

Does the Jersey government really not offer any financial assistance? -
Re: Currently don't care about the money...They do if the parents' income is under a certain amount combined, but even then it's limited to about £5,300 IIRC. My parents earn more than that, but I'm the eldest of 4, so we still can't actually afford it.(Original post by Psyk)

Re: Currently don't care about the money...Is there any point in paying it back faster than you need to? I suppose if you happened to have a spare £50,000 lying around after graduating you might as well, but there's no point in sacrificing anything to pay it back.(Original post by whitestgirlalive)
Just gonna pay it all off after... Really doesn't bother me.
I haven't worked it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were better off taking the money you would be using to pay it off and put it in an ISA or something like that. You might end up with more money in the end that way. -
Re: Currently don't care about the money...Well I don't suppose you would notice if you went travelling since presumably you wouldn't be earning enough to have to pay it back anyway.(Original post by kathhh8)
My older brothers have both taken out student loans, and since then, ones gone travelling, and the others just bought a house -so you wont really notice it!!
But yeah, student loans repayments are barely a dent. I live on my own and have a mortgage and it's no problem at all. And under the new scheme those repayments would be even less.
