Liquid ONLY!
In like a month I'm getting surgery and won't be able to eat real food for aaages - just liquid (like broth through a straw liquid) for a few weeks and then just soft food (like jelly or scrambled eggs) for a few MONTHS.
I've been brainstorming ideas for what I will eat for this time and am at a loss - I just don't like soup
It's so boring! One of those liquid detox things that people sign up for to lose weight was my other idea but my doc said he didn't recommend it because it will be hard enough keeping weight on as it is, with the medication and everything.
So, any genius foodie tips? Other than eating a metric tonne of pudding and applesauce? -
Re: Liquid ONLY!
Milkshakes? Yoghurty things, hot chocolate, basically anything liquidy and calorific cos you;re going to lose weight fast!
Also, you will have to have soup sometimes so you get your other nutrients, I'd also recommend Complan, they do milkshake type stuff and soups with loads of vitamins and things.
Is it surgery on your jaw that you;re having? I'm having that in December so will be on the liquid diet too then

Yup that's the one! Do you have your braces on already? I'm really nervous, going to have to spend a few nights in hospital, never done that before.
The painkillers are meant to really take your appetite away as well but the hot chocolate and milkshakes actually sound not too bad haha! -
Re: Liquid ONLY!Ohh sneaky! My mum used to use a cheesegrater on courgettes and would 'hide' it in our spaghetti bolognese sauce so my brother wouldn't notice he was eating vegetables. Fruit sounds nicer(Original post by hr30)
Liquidised fruit mixed with fruit cordial - makes a gorgeous smoothie and you can still get your five a day
I also put veg in mine but you can't taste it

Btw, when they take the take the wiring off your jaw about 2 weeks after the op, you should be able to have really sloppy food (if you can fit a spoon in your mouth)- so chopped up instant noodles work well with that, mashed potato, scrambled eggs (but they have to be done really finely).
Don't be nervous
it'll be fine, although the first couple of weeks when your jaw is wired together can be a bit awkward, all the liquidy stuff has to be really thin so you can sip it through a straw and not choke!
The best thing about it is that the more calorific it is the better, so you don;t need to feel guilty about drinking too much full fat hot chocolate lol

Re: Liquid ONLY!Whoa, 18 months - you must be well excited to get your surgery over with! I've just had mine for 9, but will have them on for 6 mos after the surgery as well. They're actually not wiring my jaw shut after, which is good in that the idea of that really freaks me out but bad in that it means super thin liquid for even longer. Bring on the chocolate though(Original post by Ayshizzle)

good luck with your jaw stuff, it is reassuring that I am not the only person in this boat although I do not wish it on anyone!

Re: Liquid ONLY!
I know it sounds really gross, but baby food could be an idea. As it is blended into extreme slop! I lived on it when I had my wisdom teeth removed by surgery, and plan to when I have my jaw surgery this summer. Also, my orthodontist said it wasn't recomended to have any fruit with seeds in, as they can get lodged in the stitches, meaning they take longer to heal. Hope this helps

Re: Liquid ONLY!Hello, I take it that you've had the surgery now? If so I hope it went well!!(Original post by apricotblue)

I was just wondering how it was and whether you found any more recipes or anything for food/drink?
I'm having double jaw surgery in a weeks time and I'm starting to get a little nervous. How was having your jaw wired shut?
Thanks in advance -
Re: Liquid ONLY!
Sounds odd, but you could try melted Ice Cream? They have more sugar/fat in generally than Milkshakes, and they taste pretty good
Or you could just make your own milkshakes. My mum used to do it for us when we were younger, and it's basically like Shakeaway (the milkshake company) but blended so there are no bits at all. She'd put fruit in, or chocolate bars, or biscuits. So depending on when its for, you could give this a go.
Fruit compote and yoghurt or just fruit compote by itself might be another option.
As for dinners, there arent many options other than soup, but try a few more flavours, there are some interesting ones out there! Look at Covent Garden Soups. -
