whats your view on assisted suicide?
I'm just watching a show on C4 about a man called tony Nicklinson who has locked in syndrome and is/was appealing to the courts to allow him to get a Dr to end his life for him
what are your views on such cases? should these people be allowed to seek medical help in ending their lives rather than the current process where, with specific regards to tonys case, have to starve themselves to death?

apologies if a thread like this already exists

Personally i feel they should be allowed to have a Dr end their lives, whilst it is technically 'murder' the wishes of said person should be respected especially how it affects their lifes, with regards to people with LiS and for those who dont know what that means it is essentually complete paralysis of the body, such a way of life should not be forced upon anyone and if they want out it should be granted to them without forcing them to endure such a humiliating and undignified end if they were to, metaphorically, take it into their own hands...

so yes thoughts and views on this very controvertial issue?

Four years ago I watched Le scaphandre et le papillon, a sensitive and respectful biopic of Jean-Dominique Bauby, and thought about it more than just an automatic "No" for the first time since I went conservative. This programme would probably have done the same- made me think but not changed my mind. I'm a sanctity of life guy.

TV shows and films can have a major effect on people's thought processes in this type of thing; I for one think that BBC are not as neutral as they should be on end-of-life care as a state broadcaster funded by a tax and subject to Ofcom. One to two hours in front of a screen empathising with real people or even well characterised film personages may provide the emotional impetus to push you to one side or the other. I was shown If These Walls Could Talk in school, while he disapproved of SPUC in schools showing Silent Scream (you can guess where my RE teacher stood on the unborn... )
