A "Warning" to Brighton Freshers 2012
Don't know about sussex so won't involve them in here.

Anyway, if your a fresher coming to brighton this september for your first year. Here is a little warning, do NOT rely on the Brighton Union to provide you with an awesome week of clubbing events and gatherings. Brighton union has no idea how to run things, most of the freshers week planned events were crap.

The Pub Crawl: The Pub Crawl with your halls. They charged 5 pounds to get a teacher to be "part of the pub crawl." Then loads of people came without paying so all they had to do was follow.

The "Open Pier" night: I think this cost a fiver but it could have been a tenner. Anyway you pay that for access to the pier after 11pm, just students. They also give you 1 free ride card and 2 free goes to win a prize things. So you get on the pier to find that the "throw this to win a prize things" are all closed and that the rides are slowly closing as well. You then use your 1 free ride, but hey you want to go on more right? no can do. The Brighton Pier closes its ticket offices for some reason so you get 1 free ride out of this "open pier" thing. There is a pub on there that is pretty nice tho.

The "Freshers Festival: The Freshers Festival is described as an event where you pay 20 quid to get a wristband, this wristband will get you into most of the clubs in brighton for the night. These clubs have live bands and DJ sets. Sounding pretty awesome yeah? NO, to get the wristband you have to swap your ticket for the wristband. The union decided to have a tiny table on the beach with 3 people swapping tickets for wristbands...this generated a queue...about the length of the beach. My flat managed to push in half way along the queue with a friend of mine. We didn't move for an hour. We said **** it and went to a house party.

I found out later that after you finished queueing for a wristband there were hour long queues to get into the clubs. A guy on my course got into headkandi for 15 minutes then they closed.

Also to be honest some of the best stuff in brighton is hidden.

However, if you're on Eastbourne campus, don't worry! Our freshers week last year was epic, and this year the Ents girl is a second year who is involving students in the planning process a lot more, I'm involved myself as an Events student and I can't wait for Freshers!

If you're coming to Hastings, don't worry, I'm part of the Freshers committee and I promise you it will be awesome. I've also seen plans for Brighton this year, and they really aren't that bad!
