Slightly worried about my AS results.
    Hi.
I've finished my AS tests and i'm doing Maths, F.Maths, Chemistry and Physics and want to do Mathematics at university. I am going on a EDT headstart course in July and am doing a Nuffield Bursary placement aswell. I'm rather certain that the exams didn't go as well as I hoped. It's going to be a long wait until August.
Let's presume I end up with something like BCCD and, me being the "Shoot for the moon" type I am, shove Southampton, Nottingham, ICL and Newcastle down on my UCAS application, all of which need AAB or higher at A2. Would I even get any offers back? Or would they be filed under B for Bin?

I achieved BBCC at AS and my firm choice needs ABB (for nursing not maths though).

I guess it depends on the popularity of the course, you can always resit some units so they may take this into consideration but if the course is popular they may be less likely to do this.

I'm also worried; I want to do Medicine, and I know Birmingham uni look at AS grades and preferably want AAAA, and I think I'll have achieved AAAC at best. I'm dropping the C subject (maths) though. I was predicted A* for English at the beginning of the year as well, so I think I'm fine with continued subjects, I'm just screwed with my fourth AS. But not all unis are that strict on it, so I hope it'll be okay >_<

My advise would be that you would need to be predicted at least AAB on your UCAS for the universities to even consider your application. I only got BBCC in my AS Levels but i was predicted AAB because in all of my AS Levels i was only 2 or 3 UMS off the higher grade, so my teachers didn't have a problem with giving me a higher predicted grade for my UCAS. I then resat two modules and got As in both, and i got offers from all 5 of my universities which included Nottingham.

So yeah as long as your predictions match the standard entry requirements you should be fine, although i have friends who are predicted ABB and have offers at some universities where the requirement is AAB; so in that case it would depend on the course (if it's popular and really sought after) and the institution.

No offence but for something like Medicine i think the majority of sutdents do all science related subjects. I'm an English student myself, and for something like Medicine even if you got an A*in English you might have a disadvantage compared to other students who are getting the A*s in Biology and the subjects that you really need for the course. I don't do Medicine or science A Levels myself, this is just my opinion so it's probably be wrong

Thanks for commenting =] But from what I've heard on open days and just generally, you need Biology and Chemistry for Medicine and they will not give preference to those with a third subject that's related. Like, it's fine if it is and all your subjects show that science interest, but at the same time they also like students with a different A-level that shows creativity. I was told at Bham uni that you need A*AA at A level - the example was given of being allowed to drop Maths in lieu of continuing Bio, Chem and Drama, and getting an A* in Drama. That's fine. No disadvantage xP Though of course I'm sure other unis would like A* in Bio/Chem, which might be possible . . . hmmm.

So yeah, I'm not worried about my choices . . . just the crap AS grade in Maths =/

I did AS Maths last year and I got a C in it lol Although I really enjoyed Maths, personally for me dropping it was the best thing I did, because then I could really concentrate on my other three A Levels, which i was better in, and put all my time in those and I think its paid off (fingers crossed for results day haha). Anyway you never know you may open your results up and find out that you've got an A in Maths :P So just make these decisions when you know for sure.

Heh, I feel like that's possible for my three other subjects (like I'm not entirely confident in any of them, it could go either way but it's not . . . entirely preposterous to think I'll get A's in them) but with Maths I know I definitely haven't >_< Because I missed out like half the questions on my last paper and I nearly fainted in that exam and I got a B in Janurary, didn't retake it. Was a shame I had to end my exams on the worst one I'd ever done *sob* But yeah, I just hope I haven't done TOO badly . . . To be honest even if the exam was alright, I don't really enjoy maths that much =/ (wish I'd taken Psychology . . . )

    Good luck for your results
