Seeing sparkling lights in peripheral vision
    Hey

I think I am going through a med student hypochondriac phase (lol) basically if I turn either eye as far as it will go to the periphery, after a few seconds i get white sparkling lights.

I dont get this any other time, only if I look as far as they will go so much that its uncomfortable. Its in both eyes. I did an amsler grid thing online and a visual field test and they seem ok.

Clearly the answer is, not to do look that far to the side. But when you have just been studying macular degeneration, and retinal detachment, kind of freaked me out.

Anyone else get this? Im due for a check up anyway as Im myopic (-4  ) in both eyes. But I was bored so wondered if anyone else gets this?

I used to get this when I did a lot of running and didn't eat enough... although my experience was slightly different as I used to slowly black out from the outer corners of my eye, towards the centre and then see these weird random little sparks after I'd blacked out. It got better on its own though... might have to do with the fact that with med exams I got lazy and stopped running so much... So I never really bothered to have it checked up. However I sort of am starting to get it again and actually came across this thread while googling my symptoms - and once again, it correlates with the fact that I now have ample time to run...

Btw that is not the best Slash solo on Apocalyptic Love! :P

I agree: stop doing that. And no, this is definitely not AMD or RD.

Ive since had a bad ear infection. They are treating it as Otitis Media. So Im on Amoxicillin and also sodium bicarb drops just in case there is a wax issue.

But definitely been having balances issues and before that had pharyngitis/sinusitis. So, obviously the sinusitis, pharyngitis and OM are connected. Maybe the vision is too?

I went to the optometrists and the retinas are fine. Have a little revascularisation due to overwearing contact lenses (Im -5.00  ) but just cutting down my wearing time until that has settled down.

Its just that my brother had retinal detachment and so did my uncle. They always ask if there is a family history and there is quite a strong one with us, also me being quite myopic increases that risk. But my optom is aware of my worry of that now...told me the symptoms to watch out for and is seeing me in a few days to check on the revascularisation situation

Thanks for all your replies. I think Im worrying unecessarily because I had all these infectious symptoms and a low white cell count....I became obsessed with OMG is there something wrong with me :p:

i take it your doing medicine?
you can also have a disorder, which is common in medicine, not sure what's it called, but basically, when u learn about a disease or illness, you start to feel that you have it too, maybe its that.

    Med students disease :p:

I dont think its that. I had some pretty bad health about a year ago and so, I think Im just worrying unecessarily that its the aftermath of that. Puts you on edge slightly because you suddenly realise that when you are young, ok, your body can put up with more BUT you are not invincible. My God does it make you value your health.

But yeh I do need to curb the worrying, that in itself will make me ill lol
