You can ask any chemist for this http://www.boots.com/en/Mavala-Stop-...ment-_1037856/ or something similar. It basically just makes your nails taste really foul so you'll be discouraged, or you could go DIY and apply something like rat poison on them.

I have the same problem! I've been biting my nails for YEARS and I really want to stop. Exams were stressing me out so much that I kept biting them and I got desperate and decided to wear gloves around the house. It's not exactly the most comfortable thing when it's warm, but very very effective! If I don't see/feel my nails I don't have the urge to bite them. Now they've grown a bit which is an incentive to keep them that way. :P I don't know how it is with you, but I mostly bite my nails when I'm revising/in bed/watching TV/reading. All these things are possible while wearing gloves, so it works out pretty well for me. We'll see how things progress.

Hope that helps... good luck to you, anyway. It's such a difficult habit to get rid of!

Every time you bite your nails, eat something you really dont like.
Then after a while, since you dont like it, you'll know the consequences, and you HOPEFULLY won't bite them no more :P

I tried everything. I used the disgusting nail biting stuff, I tried biting other things (like ens etc which promptly developed not an additional habit) and had my parents shout at me every time my fingers were near my mouth.

The only thing that did actually help was painting my nails in bright colours. The reason being is because tacky looking chipped and bitten nails when painted look awful and I soon stopped as I didn't like the feel of painted nails in my mouth either. Also, nail paint around your mouth is embarrassing so I soon stopped.

Just so you know, research proves it takes 2 weeks minimum to break a habit. DON'T GIVE UP! YOU CAN DO IT!

Also, reward yourself when they get long and get a manicure.

Although i didn't bite mine really bad, I wanted to grow mine over summer, so I stopped biting mine from Monday by painting them. It's really easy and mine have grown really quickly

Think about all the bacteria under your nails that you put in your mouth maybe?

Do you get poorly alot? Stomach bugs?

Did you know that when you get a stomach bug, you have caught it because you have ingested poo? Poo particles are EVERYWHERE as people fail to wash thier hands. So whatever you touch, you could be putting poo on your hands and then you are putting your hands in your mouth to bite your nails. Would you willingly dip your hands in **** and then suck them? No, probably not. So don't bite your nails.

A friend of mine used to bit her nails. But she managed to stop by using nail polish. Maybe you can have a try. Good luck!

I have bitten my nails all my life. I've been on forums and searched all over the internet for a cure. I found one, by myself with no outside help. The answer came to me in an instant and I tried it and it worked: SPRAY PLASTER you know the stuff I mean? You can buy it in most chemists. It's invisible, it binds the skin together making it less easy to pick and it stays on. The important thing to remember is that once afflicted with this addiction you will always have it. You may have remissions but the habit comes back. This is why I carry the spray around and when I find myself going back to the old habit, I spray my fingers and the habit stops. The other important thing to remember is to be kind to yourself and not to beat yourself up about being a nail biter, or in my case a nail skin biter. It's not the worst habit in the world and with some self-love and spray plaster, you'll be on the road to recovery in no time.

Those lines made me laugh ... hard. You make it sound as though her habit is drug taking or self harming.

OP - I used that gross stuff that you put on your nails and tastes foul. Once your nails have neatened up a bit, give yourself a manicure (or, use something like Sally Hansen Nail Strengthener - it makes nails look nice and healthy) so you won't want to ruin them.

i got an overbite when i was 15 from braces, which made me look like a chipmunk when i smiled. it was impossible to bite afterwards, esp mmy nails.
thankfully, jaw surgery corrected my bite, and now i find the habit utterly disgusting.

Using nail polish (particularly nail strenghting ones like the rimmel i use) makes the nails feel different in your mouth and makes you react to stop biting them off as you notice what youre doing. Also if i really still get the urge to bite them i just bite off the nail varnish instead rather than bite into the nail. Just apply nail varnish every couple of days. It really works!

I used to bite my nails constantly, then I decided to try this out... I put on false nails, so that my natural nails would grow underneath. When I took the false ones off I was really chuffed with my long natural nails that I just stopped biting. good luck I know how annoying nail biting can be. My family used to shout at me all the time because they'd hear the annoying biting noise haha

I think about the amount of bacteria and faecal matter on the surface of the hands, let alone under the nails that you're then actively ingesting. Urgh.
