Invigilator question. Illegal?
Hi
I had an exam earlier this morning that started at 9:00 and was meant to finish at 10:30. Everyone taking the exam finished around half an hour early, whereas I was still working. I finished and was checking through my work with 20 minutes to go. An invigilator came over to me and asked if I was finished (felt as though she was hurrying me up) and I just said yeah. After this, the invigilator stopped the exam 15 minutes early as everyone was finished and dismissed us. Is this illegal? I thought students had to be in the exam hall for the full amount of time. -
Report it to your exams officer and they will take the appropriate action. You shouldn't be made to feel pressured into leaving early and and are entitled to remain in the exam room for the full duration of the exam, whether you be checking your work or still writing your answers.
You do not have to be in the exam room for the full duration of the exam unless it is an hour long or less. After an hour, students are free to leave when they wish.

Re: Invigilator question. Illegal?
You honestly shouldn't have said yes.
It doesn't matter if people are annoyed that they can't leave the exam 15 minutes early, the exam boards have given specific timings for a reason. Perhaps you could have added some extra stuff into your work during the final 15 minutes which could have given you the marks required to go up a grade.
Tl;dr: Don't care about others, if you're not happy to finish an exam 15 minutes early, then don't!
P.S: Answering your question, it is illegal, I hope the invigilator gets sacked for potentially ruining someone's success.
