Amazon is pretty good and really easy to set up, plus it has a hugh customer base, I sell a lot of old textbooks via Amazon.co.uk
On the other hand eBay is slightly better due to the fact that you can set the price of post and packaging. With amazon the price of post and packing is always the same and for a heavy book you may have to pay extra, which comes out of your own money

For Amazon how does it work? Do you sell it to Amazon. Or sell it online at Amazon and have to wait for a buyer? As I have like 15 GCSE textbooks and revsiion guides that I no longer have a need of and, like the OP, would like to sell them online.

You set up a sellers account and list your items, then if one of them sells you get an email, then when you long onto your sellers account you see the address of the person who brought your item. You then send the item off and mark it as dispatched online.

I'm pretty sure there's a subforum on TSR where you can sell them?

Your probably best to ask around at your old school/future students and see if they want them or put a message on facebook or something. I looked into the book exchange websites (including amazon) where they buy them off you and you get about £3 if your lucky! I have a revision guide which cost me £15 2 months ago and amazon would only give me £2.50 for it!

Thought Amazon want something like £30 per month for a sellers account?

I was going to use Amazon before but the only option I thought I had was to give the £30 per month so I used ebay or gumtree instead.

This wasn't so easy to find last time

    seller account details

You don't have to pay for a basic seller account, I have one, it was free. The only real difference is that with a free account you can only add your items if they are already listed and with a paid account you can add new items.

Amazon did have a scheme where they personally would buy books, I can't find it right now but I think it was sometime last summer so keep a look out.

    EDIT:

might have been this but I don't know how much they will pay.

Amazon trade in. With the prices Royal Mail charge these days I doubt you'll make much more if you sell on amazon, especially as it seems the charges have gone through the roof. That and it's the wrong time of year to sell books as exams have just finished.
