    Medical form advice/help
    Hi,

I am taking a gap year in another country and the people organising it want me to do a medical form signed by a doctor for medical insurance etc. Basically, I asked my local gp who wanted £100 for it (it's really not that long, just a simple medical examination), but my friend said he got it done for £50. I am not exactly rolling around in cash, so has anyone got any idea where I can get it done cheaply in the London area?

Are you sure it has to be signed by an actual doctor, and not just have an official stamp from the surgery on it? I've had a similar medical examination done by a nurse before, and wasn't charged anything (that was in Scotland though, and I was going abroad with a registered charity - still worth seeing if your nurse could do it though).

I presume it would have to be done at the GP where you are registered because whoever does it will need to see your medical notes, which will only be available to the medical staff where you are registered.

Unfortunately as this is non NHS work your GP can charge private rates for it. Apart from your own GP your only other real option is to contact other commercial medical centers and see how much they will charge.
