    BPTC Textbook/Reading Suggestions
I think I am going to commence the BPTC this September as I can't get the monies together for a masters. Does anyone have suggestions for any books that I could have a flick through ahead of starting the course? I am getting bored already with my holidays and could do with something to keep the grey matter ticking over.

Watch lots of daytime tv. It will prepare you for the intellectual dullness of the BPTC.

I'm guessing you already have 'Bewigged and Bewildered' and 'The path to pupillage'? Both more general but invaluable!

BPTC specific books that lots of people buy and aren't provided by course providers are 'Pleadings without Tears' (drafting and generally useful), 'Be Civil' (Civil litigation, though beware it is only an introduction and based on this year's exam even knowing the entire book by heart wouldn't have been enough to pass, contrary to some providers' advice!), and advocacy advice books such as 'The Devil's Advocate' (by Morley I think though someone else might correct me).

I'd also recommend going to court as much as possible over the summer to get used to advocacy and the structure of trials. You might also enjoy buying some books on mooting if you plan to enter competitions next year.

Good luck! It's a fun year with lots to do, and hopefully lots of the problems with the BSB centralised exams will have been ironed out by next year!

Practical Guide to Evidence, by Christopher Allen, would be worthwhile, and especially if evidence was not included on your LLB.
