    AEA marking
Hey, I don't want to trawl through the massive AEA thread, it will just make me overanalyse my performance on specific questions and worry. But does anyone know if the marks are scaled for this paper in the same way they are for ordinary modular exams at A level? I read somewhere that the boundary for a distinction usually lies at around the 70% region. But is this after scaling or is it actually just a raw mark out of 100 for the paper? Also I know 7 marks are available for style etc, does anyone have any more info on how these marks are allocated? And, lastly, can you buy back a photocopied script for AEA? Thanks.

Pretty sure the raw mark given is never scaled and the boundaries are adjusted instead. The style marks are given for specific things that aren't actually to do with style as such - look at a previous mark scheme.

Marks are raw. (There was one year scores were high and over 80 was required for a distinction).

    As for the style marks:

Any question other than the first is eligible for up to 2 style marks for a "neat or succinct" solution that is "correct or nearly so". Only the best 3 questions (for style marks) count.

There's 1 mark for making a good attempt at every question.

You look to have good knowledge of marking so can you please answer my question.

In one question we had to show that the area is \dfrac{(a+b)^4}{12} I had expanded the stuff while integrating so i got a messy answer after integrating then i simplified it down but i couldn't bother factorizing it.

I knew the several terms at the top in my expression should equal to (a+b)^4 so instead i expanded (a+b)^4 to show that it matches with the expression i got, will i get full marks for it? I am quite sure i got all answers right on this question, so will i get the 2 S marks?

It's really hard to comment without seeing the question, but from what you've written I'd think you would get full marks but might lose an S mark. (Depending on whether there was a neat way of doing the question that you haven't noticed).

    Thanks.

I feel that we could have done integration by parts. But expanding it didn't took a lot of time, so i went for expanding.

It doesn't feel to me like you should lose an S-mark in that case, but to be honest exactly what they consider "neat and succinct" is your guess as much as mine!
