    Unsuccessful Application
Hey guys, i recently got an e-mail from ucas saying that my firm choice has been unsuccessful I finished college last year and resat some of my exams in January and reapplied for university. I achieved my entry requirements (and a bit more) in January and sent a copy of my results off last week. However i logged in this afternoon to find they have changed it to unsuccessful? Do you think if i contact the university tomorrow they will change it? I don't understand why it’s come back as this considering I’ve met the requirements, I’m so annoyed! If i don't get in here i don't go to uni >

Possibly changed the offer with the new year? Bit of a bitch but they may have.

Or they may have had a huge number of applicants with the right grades/predicted grades so just chopped people off to reduce numbers.

It's always worth calling up, shows some determination and at least that way you'd know.

It might be that you don't have enough experience or your personal statement or reference was weak? Some uni's look at a lot more than entry requirements. If they've rejected you I doubt phoning them will change anything though you could ask for feedback so you can apply again in September?
Sorry it happened to you though, it's the most heartbreaking feeling when you want it so much :hugs:

i'm annoyed, i've had an offer from them since november. I applied for everything early with me an external candidate and only got my exams certificates back a few week ago, they didn't reply to my e-mail or put any reasoning on my application just changed it to unsuccessful

If they gave you a conditional offer and you've met those conditions, it may well be a computer error so it's worth asking them why it's changed.

Do you mean your top choice as opposed to your firm? A 'firm' offer would mean that would mean they'd sent you an offer, and provided you met that offer they have no choice but to accept you. They wouldn't have been able to say no.

So assuming you received an offer and firmed it, either there's been a mix-up with your results or the system is down. Ring up tomorrow and find out.

Otherwise, it's possible they changed their offers this year

Was the offer from last year, had it been deferred ... or was it a new offer specifically for Sept 2012 that you had accepted as a firm offer?

yakuzakitty reply is pretty right, you have already accepted them as your firm, they can't change their mind especially in the circumstance you are in, they have to accept you.

I sent the application in October and got a conditional offer back. I firmed the university and went on to meet my entry requirements in march so I've spent the past few months expecting it to change to unconditional. The only thing I can think off is that on my application I said I was sitting exams in the summer too but I chose not to because I got what I needed (and didn't have the money to pay!) I sent my results to the uni because none of it gets updated with me being an external candidate. Got everything crossed that this turns out to be a mix up

It was your actual firm on Track? Not just a university you applied to and hoped to have as your firm, they actually gave you an offer and you firmed it? And you're sure you met the entry requirements they asked for?

If so, it's a computer error or human error or some sort of error - if you meet your firm offer, you're in. Phone them up in the morning, and try to not worry about it overnight.

Yep its my firm choice on ucas and has been for some time now. The offer was subject to be getting a certain grade in one subject and a certain amount of ucas points. I sent an email to admissions last week with a copy of my as levels, a levels and my a level resist so I've got exactly what they asked for. They didn't get back to me and was meant to phone them yesterday actually. Checked my emails today and track had changed, I assumed it was an unconditional offer... Imagine my suprise! Haha thanks guys your making me feel a bit better, will be on the phone at 9 am wanting answers.

So just to be clear, if you meet the requirements of your firm they have to accept you?

If you meet the requirements of your firm, they have to accept you.

Similarly (although not applicable to you) if you miss your firm but meet your insurance, your insurance have to accept you.

You probably should have informed them of the change in exams, but I'd be surprised if they rejected you for it. However, it may have caused some confusion (your results didn't match up with what they were expecting to receive) and this may be why they made it unsuccessful.

As I said, phone them up and explain.

If you've met the conditions of your offer then you need to ring them up and find out why. It could just be an automated computer error, definatley ring up though! Even if you contact UCAS first as it may not be the universities error.

Okay ill give them a ring first thing and explain it all. I recently got a letter of ucas asking if I was taking any exams this summer and sent it back Saturday saying I wasn't. Even so I've done what they asked and was kind if expecting them to let me in! Gonna try not to think about it and see if I can sort it over the phone, hopefully its just a mix up
