Life After Uni
I'm finish uni now. The last year of uni has been tough (the one before wasn't much better) so I've ended up with a fairly small circle of friends. Now they are all leaving and I'm staying. Suddenly I'm very lonely.
I have a job but it's not likely to lead to new friends. I also don't earn much so don't have much/any disposable income. I'm not shy but I'm somehow not good at making new friends. I'm friendly with people but it rarely turns into a friendship where I'll see them out of the place I met them. I don't know what the issue is there?
I'm also a bit at a lose as to how I go about meeting new people. Before I would have joined a society. If it were a new place I'd moved to I think I'd feel more motivated to be getting out there and exploring but because it's not I've turned into a bit of a home body which won't be helping. I was looking at maybe volunteering somewhere but can't decide what would lead to meeting plenty people. I go to the gym but I don't really get how that's a sociable thing. I'm not really one for actual sports -

As long as it is not ****ing triathalon lol. -
Re: Life After UniI'm the youngest person working there by 20 years, at least, and all at a very different point in life to me. The other staff are lovely but not people who are going to be friends. Lunch time conversation is often about weight watchers and hot flushes. The clients are vulnerable disabled people. I don't think I'm even allowed to be friends with them(Original post by natcho)
What kind of job do you have? Surely there are some social prospects there...

There must be one. I used to like martial arts but there's the cost issue. I prefer mixed gender sports since I'm the sort who likes baking more than football. I don't enjoy anything that's intense cardio, in general nothing too physically harsh since otherwise it'll get in the way of the gym. Leaves me at a bit of a lose for ideas(Original post by Classical Liberal)

Re: Life After UniCo-workers? do you not go for a drink with them after work? I know that is what I would do and then from there, I would branch out to people at the bar/pull(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: Life After UniNo. They go home to feed their kids or go to weight watchers or whatever else it is middle aged people, mostly women, do. We go for a drink for special occasions but that's about it.(Original post by tehFrance)

Re: Life After UniSurely you have some colleagues that go for a drink after work? I have three mates (IB) in the city and they all go for a drink after work with their colleagues.(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: Life After UniReally I've never known any of them to go for a drink after work unless it's someone's 50th or something. There's not a lot of us, we are out in a rough suburb and are from all different areas so a few of us popping across the road for a pint right after work doesn't happen. We'd have to go more into the city center then some of them would need somewhere to park which is a nightmare, some need to make sure their other half is fine with the kids, some of them would be heading a few miles in the opposite direction from home...it just really doesn't happen(Original post by tehFrance)
