Moving to apartment for 2 months but no Internet
I'm moving into my uncles flat in London for my internship on Sunday but he has no Internet. I only need the Internet for 2 months so just need a cheap temporary solution. Any thoughts?

Yeah, mobile broadband is the way to go. Or, if you have a suitable phone, sign up to a network that allows tethering and then tether.

When I moved into my house last year I was there for 2 months prior to most of my flatmates and it was going to take a while to get internet set up so I purchased a '3' 3G dongle on a rolling contract. Its fine for browsing the internet but streaming will push it and downloading will certainly be a stretch.

Ask a neighbour? And pay towards their cost for the 2 months?

I got a 3 dongle on contract and I was having loads of problems with it, unrelated to speed, although it wasn't great. I wrote a number of letters to a few high up people and they sent me a £50 Comet card and did something that means I'm now getting better speeds than my home broadband deal.

15GB download allowance is great too, so I have no problems streaming or downloading.

Basically, you get what looks like a USB stick from some phone shop and plug it into your computer and put a sim in it. The USB stick then connects to the mobile phone network so you can access the internet.

The thing is I will probably be doing a lot of streaming, so would a mobile broadband be good enough for this?

Don't do too much since there would be a limit on how much data you can use, although this would vary depending on your network. But if your uncle has a TV then you could use that instead of iPlayer perhaps.

I think your options pretty much are:

Get ADSL, Required a phone line and most contracts are likely to be 12 months.

Get mobile broadband. May have a higher latency (not good for gaming) and there are poor signal areas (it uses the mobile network). There are differing packages with different caps. I know three have an offer that's 15G per month (but I'm not sure what the contract is).

Tether to your phone, requires the right options for your phone and is likely to have a lower cap.

See if you can use a neigbours wifi or use hotspots. Likely to be slow and not have much bandwidth.

For mobile broadband a quick look on three's site there's a 10G/month offer on a 1month rolling contract for £15/month. There are some options with higher caps but they have longer contracts.
