Re: a-level choices
From what I gather you don't need economics at GCSE for A level, but that depends on your school/college. If you're good at maths then it shouldn't be too much of a struggle.
I've done both Psychology and Sociology. My Psychology course required understanding stats and remembering numbers for studies. Meanwhile in Sociology theories seemed more important than studies and didn't have stats at all. Ask your teachers to see. While people may say one is better than the other the difference between these two isn't huge. -
You don't need Economics GCSE to do A Level. I didn't have it at GCSE and got an A at A Level. Most people who take A Level Economics have done Business (there was one in my class who didn't; he got a B.) You've got Business BTEC so do have a background in the area.
There are also GCSE's in Psychology and Sociology but you don't need them to take the subjects at A Level. In my year the Sociology results were better than the Psychology ones but some claim that Psychology is slightly more respected than Sociology, though it's not on the same level as English, History, Maths, languages, Sciences etc.
Good luck

Re: a-level choices
dont worry about economics i have a fair few friends whove done well at it for A-Level without ever hearing about it for GCSE so long as youre maths competant, which i assume you are, you'll do fine ... although apparently its incredibly boring

personally id do psycology, i believe its slightly more highly regarded than the other but theyre both seen as 'soft' subjects by top universities so...
either way good luck with your choices!
