Hello, I am starting a primary PGCE at the University of Derby in Sept! Where are you doing yours?

@lowe, I'm doing mine at Brunel in uxbridge near west london, are you looking forward to it? or terrified? I havent worked full time in a long while so im pretty scared about finding it stressful

@tex, woah youve left it a bit late! there will be clearing places as some people wont meet their degree grade for conditional offers, so just keep looking! think people find out their degree results soon.

I am very excited but scared at the same time!!!! I have a 5yr old so I need to be super organised, luckily my partner and family are amazingly supportive, I wouldn't be able to do it without them!

Lowe! I too have a 5 year old; so glad I'm not alone in taking on such an intense course as a parent. We'll have to compare notes later on into term my little one is excited about going to an after school nursery at the moment, but I know within a few days of starting in september she will be missing me, and THE GUILT will arrive! lol are you having to use any formal childcare?

ahh fortunately my parents live 5 mins away from me so they are on hand to help. I am going to feel very guilty over the next year, im going to miss the school runs! Ive read somewhere that someone said 'every child matters, but your own' This is embedded into my thoughts at the min Hopefully ill try and maintain a work/family life balance. Organisation is key.... so i keep telling myself!!

I'm in a similar situation as you, I start lower primary this sep too and have 3 children aged 5 to 8. I am very worried about how I'll fit everything in especially with the distance, the uni's an hour away. There's going to be a combination of breakfast club, husband going to work late each day and hopefully some family help too. And I'm going to miss them loads. But I can't complain, it would be worse if I hadn't got onto the course! Glad to see there are others like me

'every child matters but your own' that is BLEAK! lol don't listen to that rubbish lowe, i'm sure if you're anything like me the whole reason you're doing this is to provide a better lifestyle and future for your own children

I had a good tip from a teacher who juggled PGCE and parenting; basically stick a bit of paper to the fridge for kids to write down times they've wanted to do something like go to the park or legoland but you've had too much marking or whatever to do, then work through the list during the holidays! basically it lets them know there will be a time when mummy isn't run off her feet with work!

I know, its a horrible thing to say, if anything its made me aware of making sure i spend time with my son. The list idea is something im going to use!!! yeah this is defo something i want to do to ensure a better lifestyle for us all really. hey ho its gonna be hard but very worth it!!!

Another PGCE-er here, also stressing but in the fortunate (I suppose) situation of not having to balance childcare on top of it! I'm off to Plymouth and having started the reading it's starting to sink in how tough this will be. Eep.

I am also delving into a PGCE -EAL , in Newman College Uni. A little nervous to say the least, but content.... Now...wondering when the reading lists, and work begins!!!

Got some books today from a colleague who started but didnt finish his pgce (ominous)... it's all getting very real now! Gonna get reading/swotting up now while I have the time good luck to everyone! x

Hi everybody!

I am starting a PGCE at Keele university in September. And yes, I am excited about it...and very nervous at the same time! I had my degree 8 years ago and I'm wondering how I'm going to cope with the amount of work involved...Good luck to everybody!

What aspect of the PGCE are people most nervous about? The hours and energy required, the academic assignments and skills tests or the placements?

Definately the maths skills test!!! Will need as much extra tuition as possible for that!

Also the placements when we have to reach our first lessons!

I know... can you imagine standing in front of a class for the first time? Or the first time a kid tells you to f**k off or something? I may die of restraining my inner rage...it's hard enough as a teaching assistant when I usually go running to find a scary teacher to discipline for me what will I do when I have to sort it myself lol

Are the practice skills tests on the TDA site similar standard to the real ones? I got 100% in them, and I have always struggled with maths so i'm sure you'll do fine Aimes!!

Hi, have been called for interview at Newman University College to do a PGCE in ICT for Secondary - terrified of the interview as I've only got 4 days to get my head around the interview process. So here I am saying hi!
