    Virus?
    I got this email today:

    THIS IS IMPORTANT

    Be aware.

    VIRUS COMING !

    Hi All,

I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment

entitled POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK, regardless of who sent it to you.

It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list.

This is the reason you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts.. It is better to receive this message 25 times

than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive an email entitled "POSTCARD," even though it was sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer
immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN.

It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of Virus.

This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.

REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US. "
    Is it true?

    Thanks for the response

I thought so, I checked on the McAfee and Norton websites and they don't say anything about it.

Good. I doubt strongly that you'd hear about 'the most destructive virus in the world' from some shady email

I echo what all the other posters have said. It is spam mail, a hoax since 2008: http://urbanlegends.about.com/librar...card_virus.htm

However, Keep wary of any of those hotmail viruses (if you use that tripe, it is terrible.) And messages that send you a link (e.g an email that says something on the subject like: wooow!, pictures of you, Check this, Click this link etc.) as those are real viruses.

Okay thanks. What do you mean by hotmail viruses?

I'm considering switching to Gmail. Any thoughts?

Hotmail viruses are like emails that for e.g your contact (or friend) opens a spam email (nicked named hotmail virus, as it mainly happens there), that has weird titles like: "wooow!" or check this. When they click it, it redirects the page to some awkward site. When you try and login again, Hotmail will tell you that your account may be hacked (as they got your password from clicking the link). Then this virus automatically sends the virus email (the wooow email) to all the contacts, so the cycle begins.

    heres an article: http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_5898499_ri...ail-virus.html

And yeah, gmail is a good idea, its much safer imho. Personally i use Hushmail (free & very very secure for web-based email, and thunderbird for my desktop )

Exactly. OP, I suggest you run a virus scan, and change your email password just to be safe.

Since you opened the email, emails may be sent from your email address to your other contacts through an automated system.
