End of contract - move to pay as you go
Hey, I've recently had a fall out with my dad and he aborted my contract one month from the end. Now I can't access internet, phone, or text anyone. And people can't text or ring me either. Seeing he ended the contract with 3, does that mean the phone is unlocked? Or does it still need unlocking if I want to change networks? I just want to get a cheap sim or something and put £10 on it and jus use it for emergencies now. I want to put a new sim in ASAP, so any recommendations? Hope that makes sense, have a good day.

If you bought the phone unlocked, then you can use any Sim in it. But if you bought the phone on a 3 contract, then it's locked with 3. You can usually till if it's locked if it has the 3 logo on the phone. Try sticking in another Sim in there and see if it works.

It'll still be locked to 3 unless it was brought unlocked. You could get a PAYG sim from them; they do some good add ons. Otherwise get any free sims that you can, try them and see if your phone takes any before worrying about unlocking. I had a phone locked to O2 take a Vodafone sim before.

Knowing 3, it will be locked - but try to use another sim anyway, you might get lucky.

If not then you can either phone up 3 and ask for the code to unlock the phone (chances are they'll charge you a relatively hefty sum for that), or you can find a small local phone repair shop or a phone stall in a local market that can do this kind of unlocking for a tenner or so - usually run by Asian men, for some reason.

Or you can get a 3 sim card and just stay with them.

Certainly is, but that's another subject.
