university of nottingham vs university of warwick
Hi ,
I have got offers from both Warwick and Nottingham to study Management. My career aspiration is to break into Investment Banking but I really want to enjoy my social life at uni so I was more inclined to go to Nottingham and the business school there is also decent.
any advice please. -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickYou mean you want to work long hours and get paid a very above average salary.(Original post by HR4LYF)

No offence but why have you such thoughts about IBs? I mean why do people hate all IBs?(Original post by Fynch101)

You find me a job advertisement entitled: "Investment Banker - £*****"
it is not a job title. It is a collective word for certain different jobs within an Investment Bank or Fund Management firm etc. At least thats how the word is used.
I don't hate 'investment bankers' by any means, but I cringe at the sorts who do a degree at a good university and sell out to such things for the money. There is so much more to life, which they would maybe find out if they didn't bankrupt themselves after the 3rd pay check... -
Warwick if I were you. Also Warwick Business School is famous for their MBA.
I assumed you would like to work in commercial banking rather than retail banking. Yes, long hours etc but no pain, no gain. The reward is amazing. Go for it if that's what you want, don't be deterred by what other people said, it's your life.
Anyway, you still have at least 3 years to see if IB is what you want to do. Once you are in, try to get internship from 1st year summer onwards.

Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwick
I can't comment on Nottingham but I can tell you about Warwick. It's not at Warwick but at Coventry about 4 miles from the city center. A campus uni as we call it but many will call it in the middle of nowhere. As for accomodation, it's 90% self catering. Going to Coventry City Center is a bit of a distance so I spent most of my time at the union bars and hence you will know your fellow students well, I called it great social life. I like it because I am not someone who enjoy clubbing and night life, if you are, you have to watch your clock and not to miss the last bus home.
Of course I am bias but Warwick is within the top 3 for Management and Nottingham is 14. The choice is yours. Hope to see you one day at the alumni meeting. -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickGo for Warwick(Original post by HR4LYF)
would it make a difference when applying for banking internships
Yes IMO -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickI think it really does. Warwick has got a special relationship with several top employers in the banking and fiance world, and many of them view Warwick as an equal to Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial and UCL.(Original post by HR4LYF)

Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwick
Nottingham. More international recognition, heavyweight institution with lots of history, and It won a Nobel prize a few years back for economics and its economic department is a leading one.
For those who focus on domestic rankings Warwick will be the better option but rankings aren't everything. It wasn't the most applied to uni this year for nothing. -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickwell what else do you suggest?(Original post by Fynch101)
You mean you want to work long hours and get paid a very above average salary.

Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickNot say that you want to do a job that doesn't exist, thus making a fool out of yourself?(Original post by tdkr)
well what else do you suggest? -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickBecause it's one of the biggest?(Original post by Meat is Murder)

Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickSheffield, Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Nottingham and Cambridge are the biggest universities in the UK. Just because Nottingham is one of the biggest doesn't guarantee it the highest number of applicants.(Original post by tehforum)
Because it's one of the biggest? -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickWell there are a number of factors that could have influenced the high number of applicants.(Original post by Meat is Murder)

And what subject are we talking about here? or we talking about total applications.
Indeed, its reputation is very good, it has a nice campus, and it has a central location in the UK which appeals to all -
Re: university of nottingham vs university of warwickIt would help if you would actually tell us WHAT job you want within investment banking; as this will make a big difference to whether Warwick is worth going to over Nottingham.(Original post by HR4LYF)
