    Palaeontology at Bristol?
    Hi,
I'm currently in lower 6th moving into upper 6th and I'm looking at the Palaeontology and Evolution master's degree at Bristol Uni to apply to for next year. The only stipulation is that the course requires you to have Biology as an A-level. I didn't take Biology, because, although I did well at it at GCSE, I decided to take three subjects I really enjoyed and was gifted at, Geology, Geography and Physics, and Maths as a shot in the dark. I now hate maths, I'm terrible at it and I'll no doubt be dropping it before A2 depending on my grade. I was wondering if it's possible to take Biology AS level during my A2 year? I know someone a few years back at my school did Geography AS in his A2 and did okay.
Also, does anyone know if the Biology required for Bristol is negotiable at all? I don't mind doing the AS with the year below, it'd just be slightly awkward in lessons.

I would imagine that there is a lot of biology in that course, and you didn't choose biology for A level so will you enjoy and achieve?

You might want to consider a straight geology degree and maybe see how you get on with the palaeo stuff in the first year. Then, if you like it, choose palaeo-related options in subsequent years. If not you can keep the course broad or choose options to specilaise in other aspects of geology. This would also be more useful when job hunting imo.

Check out the BSc/MGeol Geological Sciences course at Leeds to see the various options and pathways. My son has firmed this and we have our fingers crossed! Superb dept and course. And some great postgrad vocational masters courses.

Or do a geology degree then specialize with a masters?
