Graduate program at an investment bank without internship
This may have already been covered but i'll ask anyway.
The next year will be my final year of a Bsc and I was thinking of applying to the graduate analyst programmes at the investment banks. I was wondering whether there is any point putting the time and effort in with applications without a summer internship at an investment bank. My degree is in economics and maths and although I don't have a summer internship at a bank i do have one at an economics research institute. -

I'm sure it will be worth applying. I believe I read on here before that 80% of vacancies go to past interns and 20% to other applicants, no idea how accurate those figures are, but it looks quite possible just a bit more difficult then the intern route.

Re: Graduate program at an investment bank without internshipAnd also, lots of that 20% are people who interned at other banks and didn't get a grad offer.(Original post by Herr)
Not easy unless you have a super good network to rely on. Also many of that so called "20%" doesn't actually exist as it's just a show-tell only

Your application will more likely get thrown out if you come from a non-top 5 university, than if you're from one, but without an internship at hand.
If i were you, i would certainly try. But you'll need an element of luck to get past the first screening process and to the interview stage. -
Re: Graduate program at an investment bank without internship
Can't speak for front office, but I didn't do an internship (in a bank, at least) and just applied for the Technology graduate programmes and was accepted by a bulge bracket bank. Back office is the same in that most of the positions go to the summer interns, but it might be even harder to come in from the outside in front/middle office.
