Just Graduated.....but GCSE WORRY!!!
Hi,
I've just graduated with a 2.1 in BSc Human Psychology...and now worried about my GCSE's!
I want to apply for an MA in Social Work but have found that most universities (maybe all) require GCSE in Maths with at least a grade C or equivalent. Unfortunately I've only got a D. This hasn't stopped me from doing well in my degree or hindered any Mathematics I've had to do during my degree.
In fact when I applied for universities I was told I would need a minimum of grade C in Maths for the course I wanted to do and somehow I still got in to university without it.
So my question is will not having a Maths GCSE REALLY stop universities from accepting me? Considering I managed to get through my degree and do well?
I'm worried since I have the required work experience and the only real problem I see with applying for postgrad courses through UCAS is not having a GCSE in Maths.
Hoping to get some sound advice on this please!

Re: Just Graduated.....but GCSE WORRY!!!
Apply for the masters. If you have the required undergraduate degree it should be fine.
To be honest the only qualifications the university of Southampton checked was my degree certificate which in my case is a good thing as all my GCSE and A level certs have been misplaced in one of my many moves between student accommodation. -
Re: Just Graduated.....but GCSE WORRY!!!I think you should do exactly this. theres no point in paying for and wasting time on a gcse unless you really need to.(Original post by msunshine)
Thanks for the two conflicting answers though lol
I might just apply and hope for the best. And hey if I don't get in, I will just have to resit the ****er
Thank you -
Re: Just Graduated.....but GCSE WORRY!!!
You have nothing to lose by applying. If you don't get in then you can do your GCSE and re-apply. But, I would caution that even if you get in without it, it might become an issue again when looking for work so eventually you might want to do it part time - evening classes or something. Best of luck and congrats on your 2:1
