Warhammer: Fantasy & 40KWarhammer: Fantasy & 40K
Welcome to the 'Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K' thread!
This is just a general thread, discussing Warhammer Fantasy and 40K. Talk about anything from battle reports, painting the miniatures, collecting armies, your favorite armies and updates!

I have recently been looking into Warhammer again (both fantasy and 40K), and I'm wanting to start collecting them again. So I decided to make this threat and see if anyone else has previously collected them, or still does.
What army do you collect?

Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
This'll probably want to go in the entertainment section.
I got the Assault on Black Reach 40k starter set a while back, but it's not something I do much of. In concept I really like it, but in practice as I've always got computer games or more straightforward board games not focused on collecting available, I don't really do much with it. -
Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
I'm 23 now, used to collect Warhammer 40k back in the day. Obviously I was space marines, the blue ones.. forgot what you call them!
Had tonnes... devastators, assault squad, tanks, a few metal ones etc. Cost a fortune but I loved it at the time. Thought about maybe getting some but I don't have the time and they cost a fortune, paints are ridic.
Good memories tho.
Are the people in the shops who sort the games out still as friendly as they used to be? -
Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
Used to up until Grade 7 or 8, most of my friends did too, I was Orks, another was the Space Marine guy, another was Imperial Guard, another was Necrids, the loser outside of our group was Tau, and there was this spoiled kid who was Sisters of Battle but he took an Immolater tank his parents bought him and smashed it just for a laugh, so people didn't like him much... jerk.
Then we all got into the Lord of the Rings models, Rohan, Mordor, Isengard, Elves, etc...
Anyways the prices kept going up and I wasn't going to pay $80 for a box of 16 unassembled troops. Ridiculous.
Secondly, I just outgrew it and now I spend my money on knives instead... -
Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40KYep. Those guys are insanely friendly.(Original post by Bleak Lemming)

Are the people in the shops who sort the games out still as friendly as they used to be?One of the things that occurred to me not so long ago was that there was absolutely no concept of Child Protection or insurance with GW. I'm not really talking about child abuse here - but anyone that has been anywhere near a GW in the last 20 years must know that a lot of parents think they can use these places as "free" childcare. As far as I'm aware, there have never been any concepts of contracts or disclaimers (not that they'd be much use). So what happens if a kid just walks out the store? And I'm pretty certain that GW staff don't get CRB'd - but here they are working unsupervised with children, and that wouldn't be allowed in almost any other setting, -
Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
Actually me and a friend recently got back into collecting, still had my space marines so just kept collecting them. Kiefer if you are going to be essentially starting from new Space marines are good for just learning the game as they are pretty versatile.
Also Clip iirc they do get CRB'd now. -
Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40KAwesome, thanks. I was looking into Space Marines actually, particularly the Blood Angels Chapter. They seem awesome, and are apparently pretty strong in the new 6th Edition. I like Fantasy as well as 40K; so I'm thinking maybe Wood Elves.(Original post by Sythal)

Blood angels in 6th are pretty op but I think SoB take the prize for the fact that for 15 you get a guy with 2 s5 ap2 close combat attacks and a 3+ invulnerable save or for the same you can get 4 s4 ap2 close combat attacks and a 5+ invulnerable save(Original post by Himynameskiefer)

Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
I will admit (seeing as I have anonymous immunity) that I have a fairly large collection of Space Marines, a fair chunk of Imperial Guard, and an army of Dwarves a mate gave to me.
Never did play tabletop much though.
Quite enjoyed Dawn of War though and the fluff was always interesting (the first GrimDark universe I came across that painted a picture of humanity, incredibly powerful, widespread, unified and yet...doomed).

Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
As a youngster I had an ungodly amount of LOTR armies, at its peak containing two Mumak. I toyed with (excuse the pun) fantasy and 40k and while I enjoyed it, never commit to putting together an army, in part because my best mate's brother went off to university and left us some very well painted armies of all stripes to play with. Then when I was about 16 I discovered the joys of Mordheim, that was a man's game

Checked the prices recently, they're even more insane than they used to be! £9.75 for a one man blister? As the old saying goes, sod that for a game of soldiers.
The books are decent though, and Dawn of War was one of the best video games of its time. -
Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
Used to collect up until I was about 15, me and my mates all occasionally chat about it, it's good nostalgia and was really fun battling. I was a Black Templars man myself. Now I just read a lot of the novels and keep up to date with it but I don't collect anymore, never will again, it's really fun though

Re: Warhammer: Fantasy & 40K
I've been playing it since early on in high school roughly
Got more armies than I should really haha, from all 3 ranges GW does - Fantasy, 40k, LoTR.
Fantasy:
. Dark Elves
. Wood Elves
40k:
. Imperial Guard
. Tau
. Space Marines
Lotr
. Mordor
yup... I collect a lot haha, although it's usually small armies like 500-1000 points. Due to the stuff being overpriced though I generally shop around on eBay and stuff when I'm looking for new models, and tend to use as many of my bits as I can...
Can we get some images of our minis up? Make this thread more interesting?
I'll get the ball rolling:-
The sgt from a bunch of Ultramarines I've been working on recently:-
