Recent weather exacerbating depression
Anyone else feeling it? Normally I keep my depression under control by going walking in the sunshine and generally using the outdoors. After that nice period of sunshine and 'summer' weather however, the weather over the past week has been really crap, just constantly overcast, rainy and dark. It's starting to affect me quite a bit

don't you think that wanting something that cannot be attained is what is exacerbating depression? -
Re: Recent weather exacerbating depressionum... then if you're unwilling to change your internal reality (which costs you nothing) then go ahead living the way you live.(Original post by Anonymous)
Um... no?

Re: Recent weather exacerbating depression
Agreed. I suffer from depression and I feel that this bad weather is making it worse. What's even worse is the fact that it looks likely to last through all July, which is usually one of the better months for weather (better than August is, anyway) and going abroad's not an option.
I'm just watching lots of movies and going round to visit my friend as much as possible. I hope this gets better for you, anyway

well you can neg, but unless you're willing to change, you'll only stay the same. And how can you be happy in that state?

Re: Recent weather exacerbating depression
Rain , cloud, rain, cloud, cold, drizzle, fog, rain, mist, cold, cloud, rain, cloud, rain, rain , rain, cloud, cold, rain... the met office keep saying we are in for more unsettled weather, however the past 3 months have seemed incredibly well settled to me!
'Summer' is slipping away before our eyes, the days are getting shorter, before we know it autumn will have crept in. Ocotober will some become November, and the dark days of winter will be upon us. When you get up and its dark, your at work at work and its dark, you get home and its dark, you dont see the sun or feel its warmth for what feels like an eternity, the wind slices at your face everytime you go outside, the landscape is dull and bleak, no colour or life in the countryside, the trees are dead and bare, your skin is as pale and unhealthy as a corpses...
Anybody feel that the convicts we sent to Australia picked the really really really big straw? -

Re: Recent weather exacerbating depression
It might be an idea to keep going outside- the air can feel really nice after the rain and fresh air is always good. It's really tempting to wallow inside during the bad weather (I do this too!) and it affects my mental health too. Taking an umbrella out and just going for it might help.

Re: Recent weather exacerbating depression
The weather affects my mood, but it's not so much rain as the overall pattern of the weather. If it's a day of showers and spells of sun in between, I would prefer that to a day of solid, blazing sun and heat. I think I just feel better when there is variation. Flat, grey cloud along with high temperatures and humidity is probably my least favourite set of conditions. I'd always prefer it to be sunny and colder, than cloudy and hotter.
