    Nightmares
I keep getting really bad nightmares. For the last month they have been happening almost every night Is there anyway that I can stop them from happening?

Have you been under any recent stress?

Before you go to sleep try to get an early night, and try to become as relaxed as possible and think of happy thoughts, even putting on classical music or whale noises before going to sleep. Another way is trying to manipulate your dreams when you're in them, normally if I have a nightmare I try to control the dream and realize that it's only a dream.

There is also a technique called lucid dreaming where you learn to build your own dreams, but that's too much work.

Yeah, quite a lot. I have been quite stressed at my job and I have really significant health problems just now.

I don't think they have anything to do with the nightmares though.

Thanks, will try to do some of these.

My diet hasn't changed. I only smoke cigars. I have been smoking them more regularly lately.

It's a bit rare but nicotine can cause nightmares... Sounds more likely that it's down to stress though!

I had really bad nightmares a few months ago, but I moved in with my boyfriend and since we've been sleeping together every night, I don't get nightmares any more.

So maybe if you've got a girlfriend, try sleeping with her?

I just listen to Netsky before bed, that seems to do the trick

    Re: Nightmares
I always get the same nightmare when I'm stressed, always that I'm being sent for electric shock therapy in a mental institution, but I find that reading or listening to music right before going to sleep helps, if not eliminating the nightmares altogether, it makes them less severe.

You on any medication at the moment? I get more than my fair share of bad dreams/nightmares currently, which I put down to my mental health problems (mainly depression), but a couple of months ago they were literally so bad I was scared to go to sleep, and that was because of some medication I was on - an antidepressant called reboxetine. So if you are on any meds, you might want to do a bit of research and see if they cause sleeping problems as a side-effect.
