Can Uni chuck me out for missing time for ill health?
I'm a student nurse and battle with depression and anxiety. I've missed time when I have really bad spells, but I have never failed any work, always meet deadlines, meet outcomes etc. I've just been signed off for a month after a bad spell again. I'm getting the help I need, and should be able to make the time up by working through my holidays, but....I'm so scared I'll get kicked off for taking the time off. My GP has signed me off for the time, but I'm still really anxious. Can they chuck me off for having time off if I've been signed off?

Re: Can Uni chuck me out for missing time for ill health? As far as I'm aware, as long as you complete all your work, they aren't that bothered if you turn up or not. I failed to attend at least 5 of my lectures last semester, due to silly things like oversleeping, not being able to find parking spaces, arriving 10 mins late and not wanting to walk in to the lecture after it'd started, etc. The absences appeared on my record, but they never even asked me why, or had a go at me about it.(Original post by La_Chiquita)

If you have a doctor's note, they can't kick you out for being ill.
Not sure if every uni does this, but you can sometimes take a leave of absence for up to a year. It may be worth considering that if you find yourself struggling and your uni and course allows it. -
Re: Can Uni chuck me out for missing time for ill health?
When i took time off for a small depressive relapse, my tutor told me that there were so much time built into the course to make up time you have taken off sick. Go past that and you're looking at things like intermittence (joining the cohort behind you). To avoid that you need to be seen as doing all you can to stay on the course, for example i was told to go see student support and get counselling and things. But they can't just chuck you off that disability discrimination.
