Primary French PGCE Interview
Hi,
I am hoping that some who is/has been in the same position as me can help. I recently submitted an application to do a Primary PGCE with French Specialism at Chichester University. I have been invited for interview on Wed 11 July and so have been swotting up on my maths, educational issues and what I learned in the classroom.
The bit I am struggling to know how to prepare for is the part of the interview that will be in French. I expected this to be an element and I don't think it will be a large proportion of the discussion but I just have no idea what they will ask me about - whether it will be a more general conversation in French to guage my level, or whether I will be asked (for example) to give my views on a current educational issue or talk about my classroom experience in French.
My degree is in French so I was once fairly good at holding a conversation but I graduated 4 years ago and am feeling a bit rusty - I just know I will come unstuck and not be able to say what I want to say!
Has anyone been through a Primary MFL interview, either at Chichester or elsewhere? Have you got any tips on how I could prepare?
Thanks! -
Re: Primary French PGCE Interview
Hi,
I was in the same boat as you, graduated 5 years ago from a French degree and feeling rusty. My interview was for MMU Primary with French, most of the interview was done in English, and maybe 5 minutes of French. Nothing too difficult, mostly just general chat about holidays, hobbies, etc. We also had a written paper based on travel, for which we were asked to write about 500 words I think.
Read through a couple of French education websites so you won't feel flustered if they do ask you about current issues.
Try to act confident even if you don't feel it, be enthusiastic and you will be fine! Good luck!
So excited for September!
