    Masters in Medical Sciences...realistically
Hey guys, this is my first time posting and i'm just looking for some honest, practical advise from people that might know more about this than I do!

Essentially I'm a 24 year old junior doctor from Ireland. I qualified from University College Cork a few weeks ago after five years of undergraduate medicine with MB BCh BAO (Hons). For the next 12 months I'll do 6 months of General surgery, 2 months each working in cardiology, respiratory medicine and rheumatology as the medical intern.

Like all medical schools in Ireland (i can't speak for medical schools in the UK), there was almost no lab exposure. The aim was to make you a very proficient doctor, knowing how to recognise and treat routine and medical emergencies and how to work as an effective team member. That's fine, but i'm hoping to incorporate research into my academic career.

So....i'm applying for postgraduate courses and so far I have an eye on a masters in medical sciences in Edinburgh university.

In short, do the requirements of a 2:1 degree for applying for masters apply to someone who holds a medical degree? The admissions section in the university website says "we require a good medical degree or higher result (or its equivalent if outside the UK)."

What exactly do they mean by "good'?

I really do appreciate any input. Thanks in advance

I think MB BCh BAO is equivalent to the MBChB in the uk, so yes you have the same medical degree, if what you got at the end is a 2:1 or higher you should be fine. If your still not sure you could always contact the admissions people. Good luck with it.
