Graduate program at an investment bank without internship
This may have already been covered but i'll ask anyway.
The next year will be my final year of a Bsc and I was thinking of applying to the graduate analyst programmes at the investment banks. I was wondering whether there is any point putting the time and effort in with applications without a summer internship at an investment bank. My degree is in economics and maths and although I don't have a summer internship at a bank i do have one at an economics research institute.

I'm sure it will be worth applying. I believe I read on here before that 80% of vacancies go to past interns and 20% to other applicants, no idea how accurate those figures are, but it looks quite possible just a bit more difficult then the intern route.

Extremely difficult. Tap the network and leverage them prior to submitting an application.

Certainly cant hurt to try it. If you can find an internship before applying go for it but as i said it cant hurt to try

Not easy unless you have a super good network to rely on. Also many of that so called "20%" doesn't actually exist as it's just a show-tell only

And also, lots of that 20% are people who interned at other banks and didn't get a grad offer.

Your application will more likely get thrown out if you come from a non-top 5 university, than if you're from one, but without an internship at hand.

If i were you, i would certainly try. But you'll need an element of luck to get past the first screening process and to the interview stage.

You might be better off trying to get an internship next summer and either doing a masters or be going travelling. The number of people who have graduated and are also on summer internships is remarkable tbh.

Can't speak for front office, but I didn't do an internship (in a bank, at least) and just applied for the Technology graduate programmes and was accepted by a bulge bracket bank. Back office is the same in that most of the positions go to the summer interns, but it might be even harder to come in from the outside in front/middle office.

Getting into BO and Tech is easy enough without an relevant internship.

You might have a shot for economic/ficc research positions if its a good instiute and they happen to be looking for someone without a postgrad degree.
