Any recommended books to read over Yr.11 for an aspiring medic?
I've just started my summer holidays after GCSE's and know I want to do medicine.
If anyone knows any books that I could read over summer that would be good for medical application then post any suggestions. This could be anything from what it is like to be a doctor, to something that looks at a specific part of the medical course. Thanks

    Confessions of a GP:

Trust me I'm a (junior) Doctor:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-Me-Im-.../dp/0340962054

Both interesting reads for someone with no medical knowledge.

I've started reading 'Complications' recently which is very good. There's a big list of recommended reading here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki...urther_Reading

You can never do enough research. Read endless amount of stuff on the internet.
Work hard at school and do lots of extra curricular activities to build your confidence if nothing else.
Medicine is tough to get into so work hard and believe in yourself.
However, be realistic, don't be afraid to say 'I don't think I want to be a doctor anymore' if you come across something you don't like/ feel you would be able to endure.
    Good luck whatever you decide!

An average of 3.7/5 is hardly hideous. I would agree that it isn't the best book in the world, but for someone who is looking to study medicine I found it very interesting. Have you even read Confessions of a GP?
