    Hi everyone!!
I'm going to come to Leeds on September in order to start a PhD course at the faculty of Engineering, School of Process, Environmental & Materials Engineering.
Is there anyone who studies there?
Moreover, can some of you tell me when welcome fresher's party will take place this year?

Hope to hear all of you really soon!

    Cheers!

    Hello

I've just finished a 4 year degree at Leeds (although my 3rd year was on placement away i visited a few times a term). I'm on the EPSRC centre for doctoral training in biological engineering.

Most students from the uk move in on the Saturday of the first week their halls are available which is the 15th September. The union will be very busy that evening and on the sunday. The arrival party at the union usually has a 90's pop group on and several DJ's. Wednesday is usually a school disco theme and the friday is "fruity" the weekly night of cheesy music and rock anthems. Fruity is either loved or loathed by the students. I love it but its pure cheese and after a few drinks its a great laugh.

The official "freshers ball" is always after the first week of teaching so i assume the 29th September this year. There is loads of other things going on.

Just to add that international and PhD students usually are asked to start a week before. I only got my degree results on Monday so only just found out I definitely have my place so my school haven't been in touch much yet. I expect you will start to receive instructions soon.

Enjoy your time at Leeds, its a great university and a fantastic city.

Yes we will! I'm so excited to get started. I'm on the CDT and hopefully going to be doing a more immunology based project and staying at Leeds for the full 4 years.

I know we get to go to a hotel for a residential induction course on the 10th and 11th which gives everyone a chance to meet. Have you been to Leeds before?

Hi Heather, I'm on the CDT as well, not really sure about my project yet but have been thinking about something to do with spinal biomechanics.
I've graduated from medical engineering at Bradford Uni, so lived very close to Leeds for the past 4 years, visiting every now and then. I also did my industrial placement in Leeds with an orthopaedics company. Already moved to Leeds few weeks ago (a bit of a nightmare with flat hunting!), so now I'm all settled and waiting for all the fun and games to begin

Heard about the hotel thing, however I have no idea when it is suppose to happen - haven't received any paperwork and schedules yet.

Keep in touch and hopefully will meet you soon !
