    High Ankle Sprain
Hi guys. Last Thursday I sprained my ankle really badly playing basketball. Two days later it got really swollen and hurt like hell, I was just icing it and using some kind of cooling gel to help. The swelling moved down onto my entire foot and toes, it looked like a balloon. It's a bit better now, but still very swollen. I went to the doctor's and had an x-ray done, thankfully it's definately not broken. About two days ago, I started getting really sharp pain on the right side of my lower calf, right above the ankle. It's incredibly sensitive, I can barely touch it without screaming. When I elevate my leg and keep my ankle high I don't feel any pain, but when I set my foot back down it feels like someone is ripping off my leg. Anything I can do? Has anyone had this type of injury before? If so, how long does it take to heal? I've been on my ass for 6 days now and I'm getting really depressed, I can't walk. I have another doctor's appointment tommorrow.

    Rest
    Elevate
    Ibuprofen

No doubt the GP will say the above again.

Keep it moving, look up physio on the internet. You might not be able to weight bear, but you should be able to do something beneficial. Resting is better than over doing it, but worse than continued mobility.

Ibuprofen as above, hot and cold treatment or just ice it.

    Don't overuse.

    Etc.
