Canon 550D vs Nikon D3100? Entry Level SLRs?
I'm considering investing in a good entry level slr at some point over the summer, and have heard that both of these two models are good and pretty similar.

As a novice, with little understanding of the ins and outs of digital photography beyond the level of a point and shoot camera, i'm not too sure what I should be looking for... Advice?

What do you plan to do with your camera?

Personally I think the 550d is a lot better.

At this stage all you need to do is see how the camera feels to you. There is no point getting all technical over your first camera. Go into your local camera store and handle both of them, get which ever feels the best to you

I got the 550D as my first SLR a few months ago, so far its been a great buy. Just bare in mind that you'll almost certainly need to buy another lens that better suits what you want out of the camera...

Probably also worthwhile having a read around the 'ins and outs' as you put it, really helped me get started
