Help with filling in HC1 form
So I'm filling this form in and it's asked if i'm in full time education.

Well I'm going to university hopefully in September and have finished college.

Am I still technically in full time education?

What do I put down as my qualification?

And do i fill this in as if I'm in uni?

My cousin told me to fill it in as if I'm in uni but I'm not so I'm just a bit confused. Please can someone help?

No point in sending it off until you are at university if you still live with your parents at the moment as you wont qualify for anything as they take household income into account.

At the moment you arent currently in full time education.

Only one of my parents works and it isn't much either. I may still be living with them during uni too

In that case you might be entitled to a discount for treatments, but the threshold for free prescriptions e.c.t is ridiculously low. I applied at Uni with an income of £8,600 a year which is apparently too high for me to qualify. Also if you were at home would you be paying rent? Because when deciding how much your entitled to they look at how much rent your paying.

What about if you are self-funding your study on a limited pool of savings? Do you know whether you'd qualify then?

It's not savings that count, its income which counts- that of you & whoever you are living with when on this course + living costs- rent, bills e.c.t

Ah I see. Well technically my income will be zilch (as no one is supporting me), and living costs will be high (since I will live alone), so I'll give it a go - not sure I'll qualify though.

firstly they dont accept applications in advance, for example i wasnt able to sent off my form til i was actually at university and living away from home. secondly it depends how much your savings are compared with potential outgoings. Even if you dont qualify for free treatment I'd imagine you'll qualify for a discount.

Savings do count. if you have savings of more than £16k, you won't qualify.

You need to send off the award notice from student finance. When you log in to student finance, (on Direct Gov) you can print off your payment schedule.

as above has mentioned you need to include student finance details about the income your getting (doesnt matter if your full time or not) and qualifications just put up to A Level. You can send off payslips from work aswell (if your working)

No disrespect meant, but much of the advice given here isn't accurate.

    1. When they say that they look at 'household' income, that doesn't mean your parents. It means you and your partner IF you live with them. They don't need to know anything about your parents at all, apart from whether you live in their house.

That is totally wrong. You can always apply, once you are over 16 and not in full time education (up to A levels, uni doesn't count apparently). If you apply in the holidays between finishing school and going to uni, they don't have to take in your student details because you aren't a student. So unless you are working, you'll almost definitely get help.

Actually, if you are self funding you are likely to get even less help, because they will look at your savings AND take a student loan into account, whether or not you actually get one. Part of their regs or something. And they don't take bills in. Only rent. And they don't take that in when you aren't living there (like in the summer holidays).

They don't want the payment schedule. Says so in the form. They want the page from the original letter that says 'Financial Breakdown' at the top.

Saw another post that said they have a Facebook page now, maybe ask there.

where it asked if you have a job and how often you get paid. If I get paid weekly but I only work during the holidays do I still tick weekly? it asks for your last 4 payslips if you get paid weekly but I only have three and I'm not doing anymore shifts until I go back :/. Also there doesn't seem to be anywhere fore me to say I only work at certain times of year :/

Write it in the big white box at Part 9. If you apply when you are back at uni I think they would only class it as 'seasonal' work if you tell them in Part 9. So they might not actually take it as income. But you still have to declare it either way.

    thank you
do I really have to wait until I'm back at uni? since its my second year of getting student finance I thought it would still count and I wouldn't have to wait until I received another payment. Plus my house contract started in July so I have already been paying rent. I guess it doesn't make much difference though its only a couple of weeks.

You don't have to wait, but if you apply in the summer hols and you aren't living in your student housing (so if you go to your parents in the summer, even if you are paying a retainer to keep your room at uni before you move in) they won't take that rent money in, so you won't get as much help.
