Repeat prescription problem
I have asthma. I've been having a reliever inhaler for a while, but my doctor recently decided to give me another inhaler, a preventer one.
Some of you may know the difference between these two types of medication, but for those who don't, I'll explain: A reliever inhaler makes breathing easier. It works on a short-term basis, and is taken as and when required. Therefore, a 200 dose inhaler can last for months, depending on how bad my asthma is. A preventer, on the other hand, needs to be taken every day (2 doses twice a day so 4 doses/day). This means that a 200 dose inhaler will last 50 days, so it will need replacing approximately once a month.
When I was prescribed this inhaler, I got given the green part of the prescription, which would enable me to get it once, but not the white repeat prescription bit which would enable me to re-order the medicine. So a few weeks later, I went and asked for a repeat prescription form for this. I didn't check the prescription I was given until I was at the pharmacy, but when I checked it, I noticed that both my inhalers were on the green prescription bit, but on the white repeat prescription form, I only had the reliever on there, meaning I can't reorder the preventer inhaler.
First of all, does anyone know what may have caused this to happen? I think its a bit strange that they haven't put it on repeat when it's something that is very important, and will need replacing regularly. Does anyone know what I should do about it, should I just go back and ask for another prescription and repeat form, or do I need to do something else to get it put on repeat? -
Re: Repeat prescription problemThe doctor said nothing about coming back.. he just told me how to use it and then gave me the prescription for it.(Original post by hslt)
As above - did the doctor say 'come back in a month'?
Just ring and ask your surgery to find out.
