I hate sixth-form so much :/
So I've been at my sixth form for a year now and I HATE IT. I enjoy the subjects I do, but I hate the college I'm at and most of the people in it. I know I need to stay on as I REALLY look forward to moving away for university, but getting by at college from day to day is just getting increasingly difficult. If I could leave tomorrow and never go back it would be one of the best days in my life. It's got to the point now where I bunk (bad, I know) and sit at home all day enjoying the tranquility of solitude. When I'm at college I don't like talking to people. I have nothing in common with the people at my sixth form and I just feel more and more isolated by the day. Most of my teachers BUG THE **** OUT OF ME.
All I want is to get my a-levels done in peace and MOVE AWAY but I have to suffer another whole year of this.
Any tips? -
Re: I hate sixth-form so much :/
'Bunk'?
God I feel old.
You can't help what the teachers are like, but if you don't go to classes you're ultimately going to be causing a detrimental effect on your studies, which may make it a lot harder for you to go to university. You just have to put up with it for a year, is what I can say.
And if you don't like talking to people, you're going to have some issues at university, to say the least, seeing as you'll be moving out and into a flat with a group of strangers. -

Re: I hate sixth-form so much :/
I felt the same but believe me, stick it out no matter how hard it is (I used to hide round the back of the building and eat lunch by myself just so I didn't have to sit with people to whom I had no idea what to say - I also felt like I had nothing in common with anyone), because it feels fantastic when you finally leave, and it's a lot easier to stay and finish your A2s in the same place than it is to transfer now. Just take it one day at a time, that's what I had to do in the end.
Out of interest why do you feel like you have nothing in common with people? For me it was because no one else was really academic or interested in their subjects in the way I was. -

You're right - I cant transfer, and that would probably just make things worse!
The first problem is that it is quite a middle class college and I am very working class. Also, these people have got no common sense - they have text book brains! I find nearly all of them very jouvenile and materialistic and they only care about their hair & clothes and who's shagging who!
Obviously, I am generalising and there are a few lovely people that I get on with but the overall feeling is just NEGATIVE, and it is just so awkward. -
Re: I hate sixth-form so much :/I can sympathise with you in some respects but I do think you've found the **** part of Hills Road. Try searching around for the good part, there's no guarantee but you might be surprised.(Original post by sofiloco)

Get ready for some university admissions nonsense. You get some good advice, but ultimately there are a few problem points. Don't feel pressured into applying earlier than you feel ready to simply to fit in with the program. Ignore finance stuff. Take any information about Oxbridge admissions with salt because they don't know much better than anyone else.
I mean, ultimately, what are your other options? Go fee-paying or Long Road, the latter of which is, umm . . . -
Re: I hate sixth-form so much :/
I know this may not be what you want to hear, but if there's no alternative college/sixth form to change to, you will just have to stick it out and put up with it i'm afraid. In my opinion, the second year of A Levels went really really quickly, it'll be over before you know it! Also try not to miss lessons, I know it's tempting and I admit I did a few times for similar reasons, but you've got to realise that you may miss out on vital concepts and teaching that you might really need and not be able to self-teach.
Teachers may be a pain in the neck sometimes, but ultimately their job is to help you to learn and pass your A Levels! Not saying it's impossible to pass without a teacher, I just think that you're likely to do so much better with teacher's guidance. Sorry to hear you're having such a crappy time at sixth form, but it'll be over soon, promise!! Just think about the end result: uni and escaping this nightmare!

Everything improved when I found other friends outside of school who were similar. Although they weren't with me at school I felt so comforted to know that there were others who knew that there was more to life than fashion/gossiping about others. Even if you just meet people online, that helps too.
And I agree with the above poster, the last year of A Levels goes so quickly, which is a good thing in my opinion. I made a chart to count down the days which really helped because then it was all put into perspective. -
Re: I hate sixth-form so much :/What subjects do you do, I knw you said you enjoyed the subjects, so is it the teahcers or is it the people in your class?(Original post by sofiloco)

I hated the subjects I picked but resat a whole year so ended up doing three years, however although i hated my first year subjects i loved the teachers and they were very easy going and chilled out, i got decent AS grades (three C's) but hated the subjects so restarted.
I then loved the subjects i chose and the teachers as well, infact everything was perfect in my second year and i loved it, although it was awkward being in classes with people who were a year younger, and the snobby BASTARDS used to ask 'so ypou resat', i replied yes you **** bag, how many times will you ask lol
In my last year all my mates went off to uni, and i was stuck there but it was still a nice place.
Just to ask, don;t your friends go to the same college, if not then thay kind of sucks cos i didn;t make any new REAL friends at uni, i got on with people and talked but they were not mates as such, so your problem may actually be that your mates aren;t with you like at seocndary school and that cna be quite isolating but there is little you can do other than see it out.
WIsh you the best
