The London 2012 Olympics travel advice thread !!!
Hey everyone, some people on here will be attending some of the games at the olympics so i thought it would be cool if you wanted any help regarding which london underground train would be best to take, etc, then post a message below.

I'm an active Londoner and I'm familiar with the best ways to get around London.

    Thanks everyone! :woo:

indeed. It should be interesting. This thread would be ideal, as the last thing people want to do is miss the sport they got tickets for because they got caught up during the rush hours.

True, also the Central Line would do the job but they will get extremely packed. Also people might be travelling from different places from london, so for instance, we could advise people here :

People who are coming from Cockfosters on the piccadilly line should gett off at Finsbury Park and take the Victoria line to Kings cross, because getting to Kings Cross from Finsbury Park on the piccaddily is a longer journey as you have to cover more stops.

If I'm on earlies I will have to take the 0347 FCC up to St Pancras, then the Javelin to Stratford! On lates ending at 1am the same.

I'm more worried about shifts starting/ending in the afternoon. I will be the one shouting at people to get out the way, Olympic Official coming through!

3:47 am? wow thats real early. St Pancras will not be busy at that time i can tell you that !! Yeah the javelin is a great connection directly from St Pancras Intl to Stratford in 6 minutes!!! :woo:

What time are your shifts and where abouts will you be working at Stratford?

    My shifts are from 6am-4.30pm, 3.30pm - 0130am

I'm a medic in the common domain. How about you?

I hope there isnt much queue at security search, hopefully they would of spread the shift start times out to avoid this.

would depend on where coming from, and also never take the first way you think of, as that's the way everyone else will be taking, try thinking outside the box!
We have been giving travel advice to all the venues for the last nine months , and almost every time there is an alternative routs, personally I will be going via bus and tube, but coming home via javerlin/ train and walk .

Bike could be good, but, check out the availability of parking, and you won't be able to take it on the train unless its a folding. Bike route maps have been produced.

There a few bike lanes, but not many, but don't forget most traffic in central London does not exceed 8mph on average, (thats why using a bike is such a good idea.)

I think you've posted in the wrong place, considering you are asking about after the Olympics... but still. There are a few bike lanes. I'd recommend wearing a helmet though.

I expect havok in the streets of London.

Also, London Underground just said that they will not be giving out compensation to people who get held up in delays for the olympics period. Quite sad really. I got work experience during the Olympics in a hospital in Tooting Broadway, i gotta commute from Turnpike Lane station so i hope i don't get caught up in the mayhem. Getting off at Kings Cross and getting a northern line to Tooting Broadway.
