Found a dead cat :(
My sister spotted it in the middle of the road on her way back from work a street away from my house. We moved it out of the road onto a little grassy patch next to the pavement but we're not sure what to do now. Obviously we can't just go knocking on doors at 1am but were planning on it tomorrow morning. If its still there in the morning are there any authorities that we can call to come and check if its chipped (it had no collar)? Or that could come and take it away? Is there anything else we can do?
Poor thing.

Re: Found a dead cat :(Thanks for the reply, so if I gave them a ring in the morning do you think they'd come and pick it up?(Original post by Mr Einstein)
My cats both have chips in them. Your local vet or I think any vet should be able to read them and locate the owners!
My cats also have no collars
You don't live in Bromley do you?
And no, I don't live in Bromley.

Re: Found a dead cat :(That's exactly it, I just want the owner to know what happened. I've had a pet cat killed before and even knowing that it was dead was better than not knowing anything.(Original post by Iqbal007)
I've seen a case like that, except a car hit it...it was just dead, blood pouring out
really felt sorry for whoever the owner is, felt like it might have been the drivers fault as the bumper came off

Re: Found a dead cat :(I doubt it, however if they can identify it over the phone they may be able to get the owner to come and get it. If not then I don't really know, if you can take it to the vet you would be doing more than your onus!(Original post by CB91)

Re: Found a dead cat :(Actually the reason you wouldn't have seen your cat for several weeks would be because it would have (hypothetically) died. And it's nice to know you'd rather it were left on a roadside than actually buried or something of the sort.(Original post by Drunk Punx)
It's not his cat. Seriously dude, I would be ****ing pissed off if the reason I hadn't seen my cat for several weeks was because some prick decided to bury it without even addressing the fact that it probably belongs to someone else

Re: Found a dead cat :(Well its better than leaving it in the street to be eaten by wild animals.(Original post by Drunk Punx)

I shouldn't need to elaborate, but seeing as you're being a sarcastic bastard I may as well: Mum knows several of the people in our road quite well as she's the Avon lady for the street. Usually when delivering said Avon, the cat has a tendency to follow her up and down the road.
People see both mum and usually the cat too.
Plus when you take into the equation that the people who come over to our house and see the cat that way, a fair few people in our street would recognise our cat on sight. I highly doubt that someone who recognises the cat would travel past it and not think of telling us.
Which means that the burial of our cat, should it have hypothetically died, would be done by some busy-body who has **** all else to do with their time. Such effort would be vastly unappreciated as I'd rather bury the body myself seeing as it's my cat and all. -
Re: Found a dead cat :(Yeah, we get loads of bears around our area, it's becoming a real problem(Original post by GPH92)
Well its better than leaving it in the street to be eaten by wild animals.
The foxes would take it to where they live behind our house, they wouldn't eat it there and then. -
Re: Found a dead cat :(I would call a vet to report the tragic incident. Perhaps, the vet knows whom has belonged the cat? Otherwise, I have no idea.(Original post by CB91)

Re: Found a dead cat :(
If it had a microchip then the owner could be traced - if there is a local vet you could pop in and ask, they might be willing to check it for you. Alternatively you could ask the RSPCA for advice?
The same thing happened to my cat, and we only found out the next morning when my dad seen her lying in the middle of the road - nobody thought to move her. He had to stop the car and move her to the side of the road before going home to get some bags. He brought her body back before taking it to the animal hospital to be disposed of.
I think it was really nice of you to move the cat to the side of the road. I wish someone had done that for my cat.

Re: Found a dead cat :(This harks back memories of when my brother found a dead cat on a pavement not far from our house one morning just over a year ago (judging by its minimal injuries to the neck, its head must have been struck very quickly by a car). Instead of leaving it on the road, he brought it into the house so that we could take it down to the vets to see if it had a microchip (which it sadly didn't). One of the most upsetting things about this is that you could tell it was well looked after, because as well as having very clean fur, it even had a collar.
I believe the RSPCA put a sign up around my area to inform whoever the owners were that they had it. I have no idea if the owners ever did retrieve the body in the end.
Usually, this sort of thing is something that shocks you for a while but then escapes your memory. But as an owner of 2 cats myself, its a memory that will never go away.
